What is this world coming to?

on the advise of the mods, i am posting this thread to warn my fellow wrxs of what i consider to be a scam.

a couple of weeks ago member (mxer581) posted a thread where he claimed that his clubs were stolen. well, the wrx community rallied behind him and donated him some clubs. some time later, he posts that he found his clubs at a pawn shop or something and that now he wants to pass the donated clubs on to someone else, they only thing he requested was money for shipping.

well, like a dumb Word not allowed i fell for it (i asked for a wedge that he listed) and sent him some money ($10) to cover the shipping. this was back on July 9th. he responded saying that he was going camping that weekend, but will ship the club Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Thursday comes along and no club. i send him a PM asking for an update and he responds by saying that he was notified by his bank that he was $80 overdrawn and that he was trying to gather the money to ships the clubs. what happended to the money that we sent to cover shipping ($40-50)? i don't know, maybe used it for his camoing trip. if he needs money, get a job, like the rest of us.

I sent him another PM yesterday, saying i expected the club by Wednesday (07/22) or my money back. he never responded. i contacted one other member that also sent him money and he gave him the same story; camping, overdrawn, yada, yada, yada.

I'm not too concerned about the $10, i guess i can chalk it up to experience, but i am concerned that deadbeats like this can be conning people into sending him money. it dilutes the whole BST experience for me and possibly others that have been or will be scammed. Who can you trust? he has a feedback rating of 1, so i guess that should of been my first clue. he has been posting as recently as Sunday, so its not like he is out again. if i'm out of line or if ya'll don't think i've given him enough time to make it right, please let me know. i hope that he can step up to the plate and come on here and explain himself

No. He told me I missed out on the wedge that was listed by minutes. He said that he had an older Cleveland wedge that he could offer. So I took him up on that. I am going to stay optimistic for the time being that we will receive out clubs.

WOW...... this is sad and pathetic. Too bad people can't get what they sent back. I am sure he saw that other people chipped in and tossed clubs their way when they lost their bags and he thought it would be a good way to get some cheap clubs. So disappointing.

It's been a long while since I took the SATs, but I thought a perfect score was 1600?

There has been a third 800 point writing section added to the SAT's. 2400 is a perfect score now. Just FYI.

Later, this same punk posts a WITB with a revolving door of clubs, including two different drivers that weren't the one that was given to him. He later had the balls to show off his wardrobe of Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers clothes, along with a pile o' cash on top of his granite countertops. I wonder what ever happened to that guy... :rolleyes:

I, too, fell for the pay it forward scheme. I paid $10 to have the Hibore XL sent, and I get the same story as others have gotten ($80 overdrawin, etc.). Kick this guy out if he truly is a crook. We don't need people like this on this golf forum. If the club does show up, I will retract my statement, but like others have said, I won't hold my breath...

Is this guy really trying to scam people out of $10 a piece? Doesn't seem like the easiest way to make $40 bucks.

 

Maybe he made an honest mistake and is now scrounging for cash to ship the clubs.. unlikely but I hate to think hes trying to scam people for shipping money after being given clubs... would think the good acts done to him by this community would rub off .. otherwise hes a real tool.

yeah, hard to believe, part of me wants to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then again, it's been almost 2 weeks and why would he be trying to scrounge up the money when we all sent it to him? doesn't make sense either way, i hope i'm wrong about this guy and if i am, i will retract everything i've said.

this is what confuses me about the whole thing...

you cant print shipping labels directly through paypal, which is where all of the money sent to him should be...there shuold be no need to "scrounge up money"

also, if he is a freshman/junior/whatever the hell he is in high school, why not just be like..."hey mom, im in a bit of money trouble, can i borrow $40 to make good on some clubs i need to ship"

...sadly, it looks to be a scam...

on the bright side, at least he only asked for $10 from each person (still sucks...but at least it was a minimal amount)

I find it really sad that someone is willing to trash his own reputation for what amounts to a little pocket money.
