What does this tracking information signify? (also, ebay seller gone AWOL)

Hey all, the woman wants to start golfing, so I bought some cheap lefty component clubs (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:X:AAQ:US:1123) (by the way, finding women's lefty stuff that's not pink or purple at any decent price is absurd), and got the following tracking information:

What the heck does this mean?

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on July 22, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I haven't received my clubs yet, obviously.

 

I also emailed the seller a few days ago asking for correct tracking information, but never heard anything.

USPS's tracking system is worthless. It could mean a number of things, all of which are just a guess.

But it's been almost two weeks, so I can see your concern... USPS usually only takes a few days.

Don't quote me on this, but it looks like they have an account with USPS and have printed out postage and/or scheduled a pick up. The USPS tracking is not like UPS/FedEx tracking. You may get your clubs before the tracking info is updated again.

As soon as you [i]pay[/i] for shipping via PayPal or online at USPS that notation will be posted.

It doesn't mean anything has been shipped - in fact, it doesn't even mean the correct postage was paid for.

With package servicing it takes longer for it to arrive than with priority mail. So it is hard to tell if the seller has shipped the item or he is still holding on to it.
Your best bet is to hope for a reply from the seller. If the seller doesn't get back to you, you may want to file a dispute. Give it a few more days though (his feedback seems pretty good)

+1 on crappry tracking. I've had items delivered and still show up as "Electronic Shipping Info Received" in USPS the day after.

For $27 shipping the seller should have sent them priority mail. I guess he included his lunch and gas money in the shipping fees...

It means he paid for the shipping label. I dont know many people that would pay for shipping if they were planning to rip someone off. So you are probably ok.

Seller sells a $100 club, pays $3 flat shipping fee for a label, never ships and muddies the water. Pockets $97. It happens. But you're right, pretty unlikely.

You will probably get your club before the post office even updates the tracking.

UPDATE! According to the tracking info, the clubs were delivered this morning (before our doorman was there to let the mailman in, so I'm not sure how that works).

EDIT: Actual, it said that the package "Arrived at Unit" yesterday, not today, and not in my zip code. But some googling tells me that "Arrived at Unit" actually means "Arrived at your local post office and they may or may not deliver the next day"
