If she plays like she did this week, watch out becuz she's heading for #1. I've never watched a Solheim Cup to its entirety and that was because MW was there. IMO, her and Creamer are the big heros this week. The LPGA needs MW to dominate and play to her potential. Hope that putting stroke sticks around long term.
Her parents weren't up her a$$ the entire time (no locker room, team meals, etc).

If Wie could ditch her parents when she's in a tournament, I'm sure she'll do well for herself.
AMEN to that, Meg Mallon and Beth Daniel had that agreement with the parents to stay the H away from her the whole week.. Amazing results probably directly traceable to their lack of input/interference, unfortunately they will go back to running/ruining her career at the next tournament..

She looked exactly like everyone had predicted this week.. Now she can go back to that insecure play looking over her shoulder at the two svengalis

Her parents being excluded certainly made a difference but so did the fact that she was immediately included in the team hence her new nickname of "Shelly." Wie had a reputation as a loner at LPGA events...didn't socialize and people found her somewhat aloof. Her acceptance by Creamer, Kerr and others coupled with her performance should give her the impetus to start competing more. She's currently 16th on the LPGA money list and hasn't played that many events. The LPGA needs some American stars...let's hope this is the beginning for her.

I love the typical bar stool overreaction. For several years the Wie bashers have had it blatantly wrong, desperate to deny her talent level and how that would translate over the course of a career.

But after the Solheim Cup effort, now the Wie boosters are overboard. She's not going to swoop several victories and magically attain a new level.

It's the reason sportsbooks adore newfound conventional wisdom, the topic of the moment. You could probably chop Michelle Wie's odds to win her next event by 50% and still get plenty of takers.

COMPLETELY AGREE! +1,000,000

I watched her at the SBS this year trying to hit balls on the range. Her parents hovered over her the whole time. It was so evident that she was incredibly annoyed. She played great this week without the distraction.

I hope the best for her but I would compare her to Sergio atm, not Tiger. Great in team event, that is certain! but still no victories...

again, hope the best for her, she has a lot of talent.

Michelle's biggest win this week: for the first time in her life she has a place where she can feel she belongs, where she has friends now.

Miss Wie has always stood alone.....an oddity in a class of one. She towered like a giraffe over her classmates at 6 foot whatever tall --- not in the crowd, above it. She left them every day to work at her "job," an individual sport where she was a prodigy. Just her....no team, no group. Competing against adults who'd rather she go back to high school.

Her parents' decisions for her unwittingly alienated her from just about everyone. She was well compensated for that, but it had to be tough for a young teenage girl to have so many people "hate" her.

Michelle still has the biggest battle of her life ahead of her: that of seperating herself from those overbearing parents. It won't be easy, for sure.

But as she gains her independence, success (wins) on the course will follow. Personally, I think marketing her as some type of "savior" of women's golf does her (much) more harm than good. Rich Lerner needs to shut his trap about that stuff. She's just another member of the tour, happy to fit in with the group.

Well said.

To a previous poster mentioning her being a loner.....that was because her parents alienate her from "the group". It looked like the entire world had just been lifted off her shoulders this week.

You know if her parents were around she may have gone 4-0. Obviously she let down her guard.

Truth so pure.

Her parents need to understand that the best job they could do at parenting results in making themselves unnecessary. Even though the hardest part of that job is letting your child go.

I sure hope, for both Michelle Wie's sake and their own, that they understand that concept better today than they did last week.

Congrats, Michelle, for a job well done!

I'm very pleased with her success this weekend. I've been rooting for her for a long time, and being a Wie fan hasn't always been that easy.

I'm hoping people will now stop saying that she has been unfairly "given" things she didn't earn, like major endorsement bucks and sponsor's exemptions. It's always been my feeling that she did "earn" these things. In 2004 she was a 14 year old girl who played against the PGA men and missed the cut by just one stroke! That was largely what drew her to the attention of big buck sponsors, and she certainly earned that recognition. Jeez. When I was 14 my greatest accomplishment was pretty much finishing a comic book. That kid was/is special, and I hope we as a society don't drive her crazy. (I hope her parents don't drive her crazy either, but that's probably a more common reaction to parents than any of us parents would like to admit.)

What about the long iron into #2 yesterday after Alfordson had put her's to about 4 to 5 feet? Had to be a bit demoralizing and Helen wound up missing the putt just when she thought that she would likely win the hole.
I agree Ms. Wie really looked like she was having fun and really into the match. Eye of the Tiger and all that! Showed mucho guts IMO.
I hope that that was a start of many good things for her. God knows that she has the talent and is capable of Tigeress shots. Fun to watch. And her work with the Stockton's has really helped her short game and putting. Dave Stockton was a great putter in his day and apparently a very good teacher of the short game.
Btw, I know that her caddie this past week was not her regular caddie but apparently on loan from one of the PGA Tour players, but I think that they really meshed together well and he certainly helped her on more than one occassion. Maybe she can make him an offer that he can't refuse and he can be her permanent caddie.

Regards,
Magic
