TM golf guy

Recommended Posts

Where is all the buzz on him?
Pretty surprised he hasn't been talked about more. Two cuts made in the two Major Championships he played in, and he dominated the Nationwide. This guy has a super solid golf swing, and really looks like he can compete.

Great swing and still very young (24 I think).

I had queries on his ability to close out a tourney after he falied to do so in Australia a couple of times. Winning is winning though and he has done it 3 times on the nationwide this year.

Was set to star on the main tour a few years ago but he suffered from back problems. Clearly over them now and starting to fulfill his potential. Definitely Australia's "next big thing" (Jason day will come good eventually too).

How long would you guess it will take for him to win a PGA event, I wonder?

If I had to put up a betting over under, I'd put it at 2-3 full years probably. I don't know if he'll win a major or anything, but he seems to have the game and confidence to at least win a regular event or two in the next couple years.

Except that's not the way it works in reality, is it? Plenty of players with less achievements to date and much more hype and coverage:

Maybe YOU don't care about him, but clearly there are others who do.
Are you insane? You can't just pick some random guy, say he made a couple of cuts on the PGA ... and think he's something. No, probably half the PGA tour hasn't heard of him. He isn't even worth a crap on the Nationwide.

Good grief ... here's his total Nationwide record: 50 events played, 19 cuts made (for god's sake); a total of $103K in winnings in three years. 2009 has been, like, a banner year for him. 16 events played. 8 cuts made (he's now making the cut in 50% of the events he makes on the Nationwide!!! He's actually made almost $60K this year!!!! WooHoo!!! Clearly the next Tiger!!!!).

And someone is asking why no one is talking about him? Well good grief ... it is because about 5 years from now, there's a 50% chance he'll even have gotten a PGA Tour card, and a 50% chance he'll be selling life insurance in Omaha Nebraska. For every one guy that makes it to the PGA ... there's a hundred Michael Sims.

Good freaking grief ... is this thread even real?
You are talking about Michael Sims, not Michael Sim. Nice work.

Michael Sim won 3 times this year (third on Sunday) and got an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour. Next time know what you are talking about before posting.

Oh yes ... totally screwed up ... Michael Sim is totally better. (So hard to keep the names of the AAA pitchers straight ... so this isn't isn't the one that loses half his AAA games, this is the one that struck people out, and got a chance to pitch in the majors!!!!) He's won three times on the Nationwide this year. Actually makes the cut most of the time.

I'm sure he'll be taking the PGA by storm next year.

Clearly this guy is a heck of a talent. I just hope that his 3 wins translate to something more substantial than the results shared by another previously promoted Aussie, Nick Flanagan. He also seemed to have loads of talent, but hasn't done much lately.

In comparison, however, I think Sim is an overall better player. Flanagan seemed to do best on harder courses where par was a fair score and solid play with little flash ruled the course. Sim seems capable of going low and playing steady, when need be. I think Sim's style of play will be better suited for the varying Tour courses than was Flanagan's.

He seems solid enough. Looks certain to be, at the least, a money-maker a la Nick O'Hern.

Cheers,

Ben

Wasn't there a story about Titleist mixing up some wedges that Michael Sim/Michael Sims had asked for?

His performance on the Nationwide Tour this year has been legendary. I know some guys that have status on the Nationwide, and they were ready for him to get promoted! He didn't belong there. I think he actually has a great chance to pick up a win in the fall series this year. And on the baseball analogy, he's not really a true "AAA" player, he's a major league talent that had to rehab an injury at the next level down.

William, you know what I think of his swing, very solid, leads the money list by over 200k now. I wouldn't be surprised if he won one of the fall series events.

I watched him for quite a few holes at the event in Columbus last year. I think the kid's the real deal. The decision not to go for 18 today might have been well calculated. I think Crane was 50/50 to make bogey, either with the wedge or the putter. I think he has a really good chance of becoming what Adam Scott has not managed to sustain. He seems to have the whole package: length, short game, and putting.

the new geoff ogilvy?? he looks a class apart, looking forward to more from him, love the underarmour gear, is he sponsored by them??BUT also why the hell did he lay up????????????!!! had a real chance to put the pressure on Crane and W I N his first tournament, i didn't get that at all, was it because he was using 2iron and not a hybrid and with the pin at the front? The balls where stopping so quick it seemed daft...

Slick swing and good showing this weekend. i'd say he's not getting the hoopla because he's not quite as flashy as Ricky or Rory, reminds me of a Stricker kinda guy that will kill with consistency. However, gotta take that cut on 18 with the 3 wood and atleast hit it in the back bunker and go from there...

Why did he lay-up on the 18th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guaranteed himself second place money.

And when you're a rookie trying to make sure you stay in the 125, that's a smart play. He'll win soon enough. This gives him some breathing room, something that a reckless gamble might not have.

If he had belted one on 18 into the stands or hazard, wouldn't you say that's a rookie move? I would. He showed a lot of maturity and if not for a bit too much backspin, we may have watched Crane choke. I'll be following him. And to the people who don't know who he is, you soon will.
