Sergio's new driver?

I must say I agree with the approach. I have gone back to steel in my driver and 3 wood and I am finding alot more fairways. My driver is 43.5" and my 3 wood is 42".

I don't think Sergio necessarily hits it that much shorter.

When I got fitted for a driver, I was actually hitting further with 44.25 than 45 because I was hitting the center more often and smash factor was higher. Not to mention straighter as well. Also, I'm a +1 handicap so I hit the center reasonably often with 45 in.

Yeah, Camillo won't go higher than 44 in. because then he hits it on the heel and loses ball speed.

I agree, the longer I go with driver length, the more I hit it in the heel too.

My gamer is just a bit longer than 44.5" and I get the best smash factor numbers at that length.

I was htting an old presimmon driver today 43" I believe and I was hitting it 270-290. Not bad for a old wood head I thought. Very straight too!!! I may have to try a really short driver like 43" with the new tech.

I would guess the same since these guys know that striking the center of the face is that important. I cut my driver down to 33 1/2 and gained about 15 yards just due to more controll of the club

It seems like that would make sense...but I bet they overload the headweight so they don't lose any speed on the downswing...Sergio may not be able to putt....but his ball striking ability is tops.

If a PGA professional is happy with kicking bunch of weekend hackers asses, then more power to him.
BUT HE IS AN AWFUL PUTTER BY THE HIGH STANDARDS OF THE PGA TOUR.

No his putting sucks compared to mine and hopefully yours or you should at the putting green instead of on here. I will out putt him in day of the week with his driver.

If he was an awful putter he would be at the bottom of the table on the PGA stats, but he isnt, he is more of an average putter.

Putts per GIR he is mid table, right next to Harrington, above Vijay, JB Homles, Boo Weekly, Davis Love, Ernie, Villegas, Rose etc.

Putts per round he is about 2/3rds down, but 1 putt per round from being in the top 20.

That would say to me that it is not neccessarily his putting that is the problem, maybe its his wedge play around the greens and he isnt getting close enough when he misses. He is 100/192 in scrambling, no prizes for guessing who's top.

I have noticed the coverage focusing a lot on Sergio missing, the same way as you can get the impression that tour players never miss, because thats all you ever see on tv, the big putts going in.

Have you factored in how close he hits it per GIR? Also how close he hits it when scrambling? I believe he would be near the top in both areas which makes his putting look worse. I'll agree he's not horrible, but he's for sure below average by PGA Tour standards. Plus for being a top teir player, was #2 I believe for quite a bit his putting is the thing holding him back from being a major champ. Just think if Sergio putts like Tiger and Tiger putts like Sergio for a minute. How many majors does each have?

We have deviated quite away from the initial post, but being honest, no I had not thought about it, not even sure there are stats for that, but it would be interesting.

I just wanted to point out that there are a lot worse putters on the PGA tour. I agree he it not in the top half, but he definately isnt awful. The fact that he was world number 2 for a while (now 7) with these stats/last years stats is pretty nuts.

It Sergio with Tigers putting success, hmm I would imagine crazy low rounds.
