Getting golf clubs MOI'd? worth it?
They should have been cut in 3/8ths increments not 1/4. Ideally for MOI headweights would be in 8 gram increments with the 3/8ths length difference but since a ton of clubmakers & the big companies still use swing weight we have to deal with the 7 gram weight difference.

The wedges should be of their own MOI if you are using them for less than full shots.

Taking the favorite club approach is not ideal if you are building a new set of clubs. The MOI should be found when you hit your test club not off an old club.

Like I said if you have any questions ask them freely.

Some of what you are talking about sounds like TLT or true length technology? Is that why your clubs were trimmed that way & you are thinking it was because of the MOI. The 1/4 inch increments would make it very hard to get the short irons to the right MOI because the thing that changes MOI the most is length because it moves the weight further from the first hinge(the wrists) in the golf swing.
That's exactly how my set was built. 10mm gaps (3/8inch) off of the 6 iron that I was crushing and the wedges were MOI'd separately. Did I say how much I love my sticks!? :partytime2:

+1 I think 1/4 inch gaps has got to be along the lines of TLT but does not account for the weight differences for each head.

The weight differences I was talking about are ideal for MOI matching. I have no clue what his set up is like. This is a good thread as it gets attention & it shares our experiences with this new concept.

Some one above asked if the pros do this & the answer is yes in the way that they have their clubs built in a way that would equate to MOI matching. They have them built to feel the same but no necessarily on a MOI speed match machine. The pros are all about looks & feel, they could care less about knowing the exact specs of their clubs.

Well, I was told my set was MOI built.....so perhaps my recollection of 3/8" versus 1/4" increments is incorrect.

Regardless, one thing I do know is....the short irons were quite a bit longer and felt VERY awkward at first.

The only thing that I would add and recommend to anyone considering new concepts/thinking with the build of their clubs is....ASK TONS OF QUESTIONS before you buy and make sure your club builder is ok with post build tweaks/adjustments etc..(i.e. no extra charges after the build for changes within reason....lie/loft changes etc.)

Cheers!

That last paragraph is imperative!!! You must be comfortable with your fitter!

this may have been around for a while - I have no idea - my question is how did you go about finding fitters in your area that are compentent with this concept - I am in Atlanta if any one knows of a fitter here that does this - I have a set of Rapture V2s I would consider investigating this for - no interest in changing the heads as I love them - but shaft tweaking could be fun

ok guys. Lots of good stuff here. As mentioned before, I am going to hold off on the MOI build for now due to lack of funds. But tons of useful information in this thread that I will come back to when I am ready to MOI. Thanks guys.

However, I just order my G10/I10 combo set. Will try the AWT steel shafts out for now and see how they hold up. If my launch angles are still to high, I will be reshafting with KBS Tour 90 PUREd and MOI'd.

I took some swings with the G10 6 iron AWT stiff last week during my fitting session on the trackman, here are the results, what do you guys think? too high? Distance was pretty short, about 135 yards. Do you think range balls would have that much of an impact on distance? also, it was a red dot iron.
johnny, the G10 doesnt look that good at all. From what I can tell, the burner looks the best? Why not go with that setup?
yeah, was definitely getting the best results with the Burner irons but I wasn't sure if it was the lofts or the KBS tour 90 shafts or a combination of both. Really wish Ping had the removable shafts for fitting purposes. Would have loved to try the G10 / I10 with the KBS Tour 90 shafts.

The G10 is a fine iron but so are the Raptures. Why not just reshaft your
Rapture's with the KBS instead? (Great shafts btw)
Yeah, thought about that but i wanted something with better accuracy in the short irons. If I were to simply reshaft the 4,5,6 rapture irons, it would be really hard to sell the rest of the iron set.

You can read the discussion from another forum below. Richard Kempton has fitting for MOI a long time and offers much insight.

If you have a reasonably repeatable (ie not necessarily perfect) swing, trust your feel above all else. You'll see an improvment in center contact with the optimum MOI....just use duct tape during your testing with lead tape. 2"=1g typically unless you use the wide stuff.

In irons, you'll generally see a swingweight increase of 0.5 to 0.7 points per club....this is the quick and dirty way to MOI. It can be done with 3/8" increment or just adding more tungsten powder. I used the latter approach on my own set.

People are much more sensitive to swingweight/heft than given credit for. They may not consciously feel it, but it shows in their impact conditions and ultimately, consistency on the course.

re accuracy in you shorter irons; I would venture to say it isn't the head
that's not accurate, but that the CS Lite not fitting your swing

Lots of golfers didn't care for the CS Lite which is why Ping is using the AWT imo

If you reshafted with the whole set with fitted KBS I'd bet your accuracy
would improve quite a bit!
