Has anybody heard that TM will be releasing the B irons to staff guys only? Club Pros and people associated with TM??

 

 

The B irons are only available through TM staff members. TM is setting aside so many of the B irons for staff members for their personal use but also selling sets to the public only through said staff members. 1100 sets total, 300 set aside for staff people and 800 for the public $1199 3-PW only. I got my order in!

I would talk with a couple of the reps, but I still think having your staffers pay that much for a club is rediculous.

I had the TP MB Smokes, and was VERY unimpressed with them. I played them for three rounds, and got rid of them. There was no weight in the head, and they felt like crap. Went to Mizuno MP60's, and love them.

Now, I have the original Forged 300 in the bag, and they won't be coming out anytime soon. But $1200 for what you can pretty much get run of the mill from many other manufacturers, with the same if not better feel/construction, is not a good deal.

I'm a TM guy to the end, and they look fantastic...but that's just crazy.

The long irons in the onset B's will be more than most can handle and will be disappointed in how they perform, not because they aren't great clubs but just beyond most people's ability. The C heads would be a better retail model IMO.

I agree completely. I played a round with the C heads last month. Very solid club and the 2mm of offset felt great. FYI - the set belonged to a friend that is a regular on the senior tour. He felt the C heads were a little shorter than his previous set of TM's. He was going to experiment with a B set and have them bent a couple of deg's strong. His idea was that the bending process would add a little offset. It sounds like a good idea / not sure if the added offset would be significant.

Really? I've heard from many that have tried them that these look great. They do. I've also heard that unless you hit them dead solid perfect they are poor, poor performers.

Why would everyone get so excited about a cast iron that is hard to get when you could easily order a set of forged muscle backs from Mizuno, Titleist, Adams, TM (I think you can still get the TP Smoke or Satin), and many others. If you want a compact head with no offset, why put yourself through all of the torture??? Is it just to have something no one else does? I can respect that answer.

Adams irons aren't truly forged but made from 8620, just as these R9 B heads. These will feel just like the Pro Blacks or new CB1s and feel good to me. I think the offset is an issue though especially for a retail release.

I would take the Burner B's from Japan over the R9 TP forged.

Is it me or is taylormade a sort of a hypocrite. the whole burner irons thing about "not making every iron the same" and then they secretley make these FORGED irons for the tour players.

First of all, they aren't forged. They are soft cast from 8620 steel. Second, the Burner concept is a good one. I have a half dozen or so buddies that all play and love the Burner irons who are of all kinds of handicap levels and shot shapes, etc. However, that doesn't mean that what works for a large majority of the public will work for all or even most tour players. One size will NEVER fit all when it comes to golf with the technology we have today to custom fit a club to a player.
