Any Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can fans in here ?

How does the finish hold up and do you have to clean them from rust ?
I consider getting some basic customized Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can wedges for the winter season - and I might as well get some with the older sharper grooves while stock last.

I know they will probably have more than enough for the next year or so, but I need new wedges now and have considered getting some basic solid cast Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can wedges to see if I like how the finish will tear off and eventually rust.

Do you have to clean the rust out of the grooves or will it not rust to that extent ?

I'm a rookie regarding Oil Can finishes, and originally preferred Black Nickel finish and Tour Chrome, but wedges will eventually look less than perfect, so why not try some rusty oil can finished wedges to see if I like the look and how they play :)

What are the pros and cons in an Oil Can finished wedge ?

It looks very good when brand new, but for how long will it stay looking this great :D

I play three oil can wedges and I haven't had any problems with rust in the grooves. I clean my clubs after I practice or play though. I can't comment too much on the finish because I scrubbed it all off the day I got it. I have always played vokey raw wedges and wanted to keep that look. Considering I got the finish off with a scrubber sponge and some dish soap it can't be very durable.

I had one for awhile, but we are out here in the desert where there isn't much moisture. From what I hear, you can use wd-40 or all-in-one oil to clean and protect against corrosion. I know the trick where you use Coca-cola to accelerate the rusting for more "bite" on the face. I love the look and origionality of the oil can and raw wedges but they lack durability. Even out here in the desert I only got about a year and a half out of mine before I felt the groves lost there "edge" and I didn't even play much during that period.

Do you just prefer the raw look or do think they feel different/softer/better than the other Vokey finishes available to public ?

I only play 9 holes a week and hardly ever practice, maybe 25 minutes before the 9 holes, so I think they should still last me at least 2 years+ :D

Also I think I'm more addcited to buying golf gear and golf cloths, than to actually playing the game of golf - so have probably sold them within 6 months time and maybe bought some of the new forged Callaway Jaw wedges instead.

The idea of having a trio of wedges, that will look rusty and raw have never appealed to me earlier, but I think I'm ready to try the raw rusty wedge look now...... :vava:

If you're only playing nine a week and do your practicing before you play those 9 holes the finish on a set of oil can Vokeys should last awhile. Obviously the soles wear quickly and the lower face will as well..but not as bad as some may think. It depends on what kind of conditions you play in. I played a set for awhile and eventually coked them to hurry up the rusting process.

I don't think the finish attributes to the feel. I read that as well, but im back to playing tour chrome vokeys that feel the same in my hands.

I love mine! My 54* I have had for 6 or 7 years, and it hasn't rested one bit. I keep it clean and in a somewhat dry environment, and my 60* has not had a single problem at all. It is and always has been my favorite Vokey wedge finish, because I think it is a little softer.

Like a previous poster, I bought the Oil Can SM's and immediately removed the finish, leaving them raw.

They look great, feel great, and really don't accumulate much rust unless playing in the rain. Then it is a simple matter of cleaning them and using a pad to redo the finish and get the rust off.

The whole process takes all of 5 minutes, and when freshly sanded down they look brand new and are the best looking wedges I have ever seen.

I might do this with mine. Any tips on removing the finish? Did you coke them?

Look at it like this.... RUSTY WEDGE FACE = MORE SPIN....... :clapping:

I for one let mine rust some. Notice the word "some". I'm not after the "left in salt water for 5 years look" but a little rust is good for spin :).

No more no less life for me. I go through wedges about once a year. Raw seem to last as long as the rest....Just take care of them and keep the grooves cleaned out.

I have a cg 12 black nickel wedge and then i also have a vokey SM oil can and what i can say is the oil can is a different look. For some reason my rusted exremely quickly and i feel like i dont have as much bite as i did when i first got it. Mind you i play about 6 times a week and hit range balls before every round. However you look at it, it is just a preference of look that you are going for but mine looks like it has corrosion all over it which is kinda cool i guess.

new Vokey OC stays on very good. It was tough taking the finish off brand new.
I think there was a topic of this. i.e. people having hard time stripping the finish off. Sole is the first to go, but everything else stays very good. I love the spin you get from SM, but it kills me when prov1 gets scratch, so I went to scratch wedges this year.

Almost all set for 2021

Have been the proud owner of 3 forged 1018 carbon steel Scratch Custom made Tour Satin wedges with my own logo and design on - they were great, however I don't play often enough any more to really be able to feel the minute differences, and they are minute but triple the price of a Vokey wedge - golf is played 95% between the ears :D

I currently play with 3 Ping WRX Tour W wedges, which are cast - and to be honest they feel great, but I like the look of Vokey Spin Milled better, so will go back to what I know I like.

The Scratch wedges were one of a kind custom made, but I didn't score better or worse with them, than what
I scored with my Spin Milled Vokeys......

Had 3 Vokey Spin Milled Tour Satin Chroke in 2006 - now I will try 3 Vokey Oil Can Spin Milled and see how I like them. Now they also offer them as an option with KBS Tour wedges shafs......
