Mizuno Mp-58 iron forgiveness wise compared to the Ping S57 iron ?

Recommended Posts

Hey,I own the Ping WRX S57 and want a Mizuno forged iron set with circa the same amount of forgiveness as I find in the Ping S57.

I like to shape shots, and rarely try to hit a straight ball curve.I've tested the Mp52, and they felt good, but not great - and didn't fancy the overall clubhead design of the Mp52's.

The Mp58's have my attention, because I like the Japanese inspired Titanium insert and the clubhead design - and I hope they are a tiny bit more forgiving than my old set of Mp32's.

I only play 9 a week and don't practice much - the Ping WRX S57 are pretty forgiving and I need a forged iron set with the same amoint of forgiveness, that looks awesome.

The direct step from the Mp32's would probably be the Mp62's, but as I say, I need a bit more forgiveness and think the Mp58 might be a good choice if I need somehtin along the lines of my cast Ping WRX S57 iron set.

I've been down the Miura road a few times (have owneed the cb-301, cb-201 & cb-202), and they are great - but Mizuno is what I'm looking for at the moment - Mp58's have my attention :pimp:

So can anyone please tell me if the Mp58 have the same amount of forgivess and playing abilities as the cast Ping S57's ?I haven't found any shop, where I could test the Mp58 with any of my preferred shaft or 2 degree upright and 1/2" over....... So need some input here from you :D

have hit both, owned a set of 57's for a season but didn't really warm to them found them to light and never really felt like i could trap the ball with them. Pal of mine has 58's have only hit from 6 iron up abeit in softer shafts than i would use.

My initail response was wow! really felt like i clatter these things! really easy to hit punches knock downs etc. etc and very forgiving much more than the x forged i currently use.

Probably because there are already some 85 topics about this. :)
[/quote]Of course I did a search in here before I posted my question - I'm not exactly a newbie in here.

I was only able to find circa 10 threads about the Mizuno Mp58 and none of them mentioned the Ping WRX S57, so would be mighty great if you would care to link to just 5 of the 85 topics about Mp58 and S57 you claim there should be in here on GolfWRX !

Thanks in advance ;)

Thanks for your reply to me :D

For that very reason did I custom order my S57 so they were 2 swingweights higher. How would you say the Mp58 felt and responded compared to the S57 ?Could you shape the ball as easily with the Mp58 as with the S57 and were they also as forgiving on too close to toe hits (when I'm cold I tend to pull my arms to my body and hence often miss shots towards the toe rather than shank them towardst the heel.

Thanks once again :)

Its an interesting question. If people who have hit both think the Mp-58s have the same amount or more forgiveness than the S-57s with the added bonus of forged feel, then the S-57s look less appealing. Honestly though, after looking at the Mp-58s how could they possibly be more forgiving? I'm more than willing to give up some feel for additional forgiveness with equal amounts of workability. Not having to check lie angles as often is also pretty appealing to me, and durability . .. .

Hey :)

My plan was to keep both irons.
Use the cast S57 as my winter sticks and the softer forged Mp58 as my summer sticks - can you see why Im's asking this question now.......

VG -- LOL Yeah, there's probably no one particular post that specifically addresses what you want to know. All of the posts I've seen have done comparisons between mostly the Pings and the 52s and 57s. If my memory serves me correctly (BIG "IF"), most found the Pings to be more forgiving than the 57s, and maybe a toss up with the 52s. From the newer posts about the 58s, I've found that people find them less forgiving than the 52s. So, I'd deduce that people find the 58s less forgiving than the Pings. Easy, right? haha

my miss hits are similar to yours as tend to be cold over here most of the time, i found mp58's marginally more forgiving than pings. i found the pings to feel harsh to be honest although i will say the long irons were very easy to flight but I had one stock shot a baby draw, that was quite high. Couldn't hit punchs to save my life with them. 58's i actually hit the 4 iron today (just fininshed quick nine with my boss after work!) just out of courisity from this post. very easy to hit stock shot was little draw but could hit high low etc etc v easily. they feel far supieror to pings IMHO.
