Putter pics (and a snow day)

I was looking outside the window today, a bit depressed about the fact that there's a ton of snow on the ground. Normally, I'd be debating which irons, woods and ,of course, which putter to take out to the course. So I thought it'd be fun to photograph the putter "options" and the reality of winter.

Awesome collection!! I really like the Studio design, what model is that one? Its like a Circa '62, 2 but alot nicer.

I do have one thing in common w/ the those pics, unfortunately its the last one.

Hopefully I don't ignite a Bettinardi/Cameron war.

The Bettinardi still "feels" better to me...it's an uncanny combination of soft and responsive. not sure if it's the DASS or because of the 3 slot. BTW - The Odyssey Prototype #2 is VERY underrated. It has also has a very soft feel for a stainless steel putter...I'm guessing it's based on how the cavity is shaped...

The snow hurts. I was just out last weekend playing in 40* weather. NO ONE was out there! $15 to walk 18 holes at a local course, [url="http://www.benttreegolfcb.com/about.asp"]Bent Tree[/url], was wonderful especially since it felt like the course was all ours. Frozen greens (1/4-1/2" under the surface) had approach shots bounce like they were hitting cement.

It's a Studio Design 1.5 with a slant neck. See the [url="http://www.scottycameron.com/putters/archivedetail.aspx?id=119&seasonID=4"]Cameron[/url] archive (2005). Love the black pearl finish, but it's starting to show some slight wear on the edges.

Thank you! And yes...I am a true putter HO! My wife gets on my case at times, but I tell her I'm not running myself into debt (collected over time) and it's better than drugs!

Yes...but it can change week to week...bad day on the greens = closet time for the putter.

Some are newer so it's harder to given a long-term ranking. The Bettinardi BB8, Odyssey and Whitlam have been in the top 3 for quite some time. The Cameron Newport 2 and Bettinardi FIT FACE JAM are newer...but the few times I've taken out the JAM have shown some real positive results.

Yes...it has a modified Fit Face and a long neck. Great feel and surprisingly the topline has been a very good alignment aid. I usually prefer a flange line or sight dot...

Josh, that means a lot coming from a fellow putter ho!

You are right...the Whitlam has always been a performer and a great looker. I made the mistake of extending it...I'll take it back down to 34.5". I think if more people had the chance to try a Whitlam, they'd really be impressed.

The Betti BB8...I have seen other BB8 3-Slots, but most have the Tour Stock logo on the bottom...this is the only one I've seen that is completely hand-stamped on the bottom.

Yes. The teryllium insert creates a much softer feel (more muted sound) than stainless steel. I typically do NOT like inserts, but this one is an exception.

The Odyssey is a very simple, no non-sense type of putter. You'll see a lot of the Odyssey Prototype #1 putters as they were sold as part of Callaway's Tour Authentic line, but the #2's are rare. I found this on eBay from someone who had a BIN for $125 (they were going for over $800+ at the time). It had some dings and wear so I sent it to BOS for a little spa time and to add a site dot. I had them work on everything but the face...they wouldn't be able to keep the original milling pattern.

It turned out wonderful and it's a great putter.

The Bobby Grace Copper and Dovetail design (post-Cobra, Pre-MacGregor) are hard to find now. I had an email from Bobby Grace saying they were just too expensive to make. It's copper and aircraft aluminum...the copper helped to provide some additional heel-toe weighting.

You'll see one pop up on Ebay every now and again...the difficulty is finding them in mint condition.
