Southeast Missouri Golf

Once you get south of St. Louis, there are not a lot of good golf courses. I have played most/all of them, so here are a select few that are worth playing.

 

Quail Creek-This is still south St. Louis county/north Jefferson county. I solid 18 hole course designed by Hale Irwin. Conditions are not always great and can be pricey and hard to get on during the weekend. Aside from 1 weird hole (#10) the back nine is very solid and has a lot of good holes.

 

Crown Pointe (formerly Eagle Lake)-about an hour south of st. louis. this is probably the second best course in Southeast Missouri. It is long, wide open (except for brutal rough most of the summer), and has large good greens. For a number of years it was home to the Ping Amateur which was a top notch local amateur tournament. A good design with zoysia fairways and bluegrass rough. Signature hole is a reachable par 5 with the green surrounded on three sides (front, right, back) with water. If you go for it in 2 shots, you are forced to hit a shot of about 200yds over water. Often has coupons on their website.

 

Terre Du Lac CC-this is really a private course, but you can get on most days with a phone call to the proshop. The course is short (6400yds) and the greens are usually slow, but the course is a blast to play. Each hole is secluded and they have small pushed up greens. To me, every hole looks like a short version of a US Open golf hole. If you just have a short amount of time to play and don't want to be held up by anyone. Play here.

 

Bent Creek Golf Club-This course is in Jackson, MO which is right next to Cape Girardeau. This course is probably the pick of Southeast missouri. There is really nothing special about the course except it is just a good test of golf. The course runs up and down hills, in and out of trees, across creeks and around lakes. There are houses on the course, but they don't really infringe on the golf. If there is a weakness to this course, it is the fact that all the par 3's have you hitting the same club. They have a reachable par 5 that gets your heart pumping and several risk reward holes. The same guy designed this course that designed Crown Point (above), but this course has a more varied terrain and shot variety.

 

Dalhousie Golf Club-this is a very private high dollar course. Play it if you can get on, but not worth paying more than $100 to play. Has members like Albert Pujols and Rush Limbaugh.

 

Bootheel Golf Club-Sikeston, MO. I included this course, just to have a course in extreme south eastern missouri. Like everything in Sikeston, this course is DEAD FLAT. Has a good size creek (drainage ditch) that runs thru the course, but it only comes into play twice. This is really an unimaginative golf course and wouldn't spend too much money to play. Former home of the Bootheel Golf Classic on the Hooter's Tour. (won by Chad Campbell). If you can get on Sikeston CC, it is preferable to Bootheel Golf Club.

Have you tried any NE arkansas courses? Thunder Bayou is a relatively good course and Sage Meadows is also a decent place (although I think I think they may have closed the front 9). Its also very close to western TN which also have a few good courses. The Farms in Dyersburg is a nice.

I've played Bent Creek multiple times. That's a solid golf course, especially for the money. Have you played the course at Ste Gen? Looks pretty easy but I'd like to stop by one day and give it a shot.

Sorry to not reply very promptly. Ste Gen is only about 35 minutes from my house, but I haven't played there in almost 7 years. That tells you what I think of it. They have a 'new' nine and and 'old' nine. The members hate the new nine. There is not much to this course and it is similar to any of the small town courses you would play anywhere. I'f you've played Perryville, Leadbelt (Bonne Terre), you've played two courses that are a little better than Ste Gen.

Bent Creek is an awesome course. It is a really fun course to play. Dalhousie is a great course and pretty hard. But like mentioned above it is crazy expensive. Much more bang for your buck at other courses.
