My New Edel Putter

Just like My Old ONe - Funny Story

I just got my new Edel putter today. I went down to see David Orr right before Xmas and had a lesson and a fitting. At the time, I took all of my putters with me. At least I thought I had all of them with me. David had me aim each one looking for the one that I aimed the best. I wanted a new putter so David fit me for an Edel.

The funny part is, I already had an Edel. I was fitted for a Henry Griffitts putter about 8 years ago. I found it last week when I cleaned out my storage unit. I thought it was in the bag when I had my bag stolen six years ago. Well, thankfully I found it. I didn't have it with me when I went to the Creek. The best part is, the two putters that I was fitted for, the HG designed by Edel and the NEW Edel are almost identical. The head shapes are identical. The hosels are a little different. The lie angles are identical as are the lengths and lofts. The lines on top are a little different. In my first fitting, I aimed a putter with no line the best, but I felt like I had to have a line so we came up with three lines as shown which I could aim. My teacher tried to talk me into no lines then but I wouldn't listen.

The finishes are different and I am glad. I thought I was actually getting a stainless look with the new putter and it came in with the Black finish. A little mix up but I like it, especially since I found the old HG. The head cover is the best I have seen. I love the way it closes.

Pretty cool really. Validation that the putter I aim the best over an 8 year period is the same. Now I have two gamers. I have no idea why I quit using the first HG by Edel anyway. I loved that putter. Now with the new green reading, setup, and skills I learned from David, I can't wait to get to the green.

I've made the comment before that David Edel's putters are some of the most fantastically crafted putters in the game. Holding one in your hands you can feel the craftsmanship. It is different than any other. Knowing of his work with watch-making, you see that every surface is as close to perfect as can be done.
I know that this is sort of like rooting for the "other guy", but having spent some time with one of his in my hands, I have felt what I am striving for, in my own work.
If you ever have a chance to hold and roll an Edel, take the time and feel the perfection.

I have owned five Scotty's, four Ping's, and couple of Odyssey's, a MacGregor, a Taylor Made, and a couple of other putters. The quality of the Edel is at least as good as the Scotty, and personally I think it is better. The customization is awesome. I picked a shaft that "felt" right. Not only do you get a putter you aim better, but you get to make it "feel" right too. I know Scotty has a huge following, and the putters are very good. The appearance, quality, and feel of a Scotty is very good. But I like having a putter that is perfect for ME, that I get to pick how it feels, the weight, the length, the lie, the loft, etc.

I am rolling the ball better on my indoor green than I ever have for sure.

Thanks for the compliment, it means a lot to me. As anybody on here that builds or attempted to build a putter knows it is not rocket science. However, the difficulty lays with being original, maintaining consistency, and staying in it long enough to have people notice.

All the people that make putters, I have a lot of respect for. It is a hard business, long hours, and a lot of personal financial committment. There is a big piece of the pie that has room for anyone that puts it on the line and comes up with good ideas.

Most of all we have to respect the guys that came before us. Karsten, T.P. ,Rueter, Low, Clay Long, Ray Cook, to name a few. To take pride in a long lineage of clubmakers who have come and gone, to pay respect to our mentors and our fellow competitors.

Thanks again for the nice posts, and believe me it means a lot. If you don't have respect you "ain't got nothing".

I just got my Edel 2 days before christmas i love it. My putting within 10 feet is 10x better. I have way more confidence on the green which has made my chipping and iron game better. I would recommend a fitting to any golfer the putters are great. I hope you the company continues to grow and succeed because the quality of the product and service deserve it.

Just got mine. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but it's been great on the practice green. I attached a few pics. The fitting process is amazing. The confidence you feel with a putter you know is lined up correctly is wonderful. Many thanks to my main man Bobby Dean!

Very nice! Congrats on the new Edel putter, I really like the look and finished. I'll need to check with my local fitter on a Edel fitting session and a new Edel putter.
