This hole is unreal from the tee. You cant push it, you can't hook it, you can't duff it. The landing area opens up when you get up there. That picture was taken in 2008 and when I was fat. Look at the gut, disgusting.

 

Anyway, this hole is a true 3 shot hole. 590 yards. About 190 of carry, but just really intimidating. If you are right or left, and you havent hit it at least 300 yards, you will not be able to get it back to the fairway to about 150 out. You need a premium drive off the tee, just to give yourself the opportunity to get it to 140 out after your second ball.

 

Personally, I think the 2nd shot is more difficult because you need to hit a premium 200 yard 3-wood or hybrid to get it to 140. I've messed that up more than the drive.

 

Birdie is something to be proud of on this hole. A feat I've accomplished once in about 40 tries.

Besides the resort courses in northern lower Michigan there are some very nice courses in central, and southern lower Michigan, also, that offer challenges like the hole pictured by tdk8180; [url="http://www.golfthemedalist.com/?page=17780"]The Medalist[/url] in Southern lower Michigan which has several carries over wetlands (#11 is 215 yard carry); or for the big hitters, that seem to be prolific on this golf site, there is [url="http://sugarbushgolfclub.com/course"]Sugarbush Golf Club[/url] which is 7356 yards and also offers big carries over wetlands. these two have reasonable greens fees depending on when you play and specials being promoted.

One of my favorite courses in our state is [url="http://www.marquettegolfclub.com/courses.htm"]The Grey Walls [/url] course of Marquette Golf Club which overlooks Lake Superior in the U.P. of Michigan. Relatively new course, and very entertaining golf with a view. Not cheap but worth the experience.

I've heard Michigan is home to some stunning and fantastic courses. I've played at Whistling Straits several times, and one of the caddies pointed out to me as we were standing on the shore of Lake Michigan that "as the crow flies" there are some fantastic courses on the other side of this "little pond"

One day I hope to have an excuse to travel up there and check them out IN THE SUMMER!!
