Was it me or was NBC's

broadcast from Riveria much better than what CBS's has been over the last few years. NBC seem to show much better angles and the HD was better ... IMO Riveria looked awesome and like we haven't seen it before.

 

Plus, they showed more and better golf action. When someone whacked one close of a par 5 and had an eagle putt ,they actually showed the approach. Unlike , that Barrow guy on CBS ( the most overrated hack in golf ) who will show you the putt , but rarely the approach. Which is just brutal. Also, there were shots of guys that were not on the leaderboard , but had made good shots. Those always help the broadcast , something Barrow hasn't figured out.

 

But again .... we had to wait for the broadcast. The hockey game wasn't over and went OT , which is so annoying. The hockey was frustrating but not completing sickening like CBS's worthless long running college hoop games , which always run over an extra 20 to 30 minutes. Then CBS never goes directly to the golf even after that. They will show highlights of other worthless college hoop games ... including the worhtless one you just were just praying to end !!!!

I only saw a little bit of the coverage over the weekend but it did seem much better than in past years. Honestly, as much as I love the game of golf, watching golf on the weekends has just about all but ceased for me. Watching a few tee shots and mostly nothing but guys putting just bores me to tears. And, most of the time, I record it on DVR and fast forward thru most of the broadcast. Maybe NBC will get me more interested in watching golf on tv again.

I couldnt agree more!!!! I love how NBC will do close ups on Putters when they are putting!!! Not to mention they didnt feel the need to talk about tiger every 5 seconds or talk about the groove rules.

Let me say this..... I attended both of the last two events, Farmers at Torrey, and NTO at Rivera, personally. And one of the first things that really stood out to me was what a much bigger presence TV was at Rivera. I assume this was because of NBC. They seem to be set up to shoot every shot on the course just about. Maybe at Torrey, they are more hidden, but I did think NBC's coverage was way better. I went on Sat of both events and watched Sun at home. Generally, I just like NBC better because of Johnny M, but as far as the coverage goes, I agree they are seeming to step up their game vs CBS. Could be because the Network contracts are coming up soon? or maybe because they know with Tiger out they have to do a great job to draw in viewers? Who knows? It was disappointing that TGC didn't have a couple hours in the morn on either Sat or Sun though. I think that is always a great complement to the big networks. It was a shame since the course was already step up for such thorough coverage.

Hey I'll take that hockey overtime or running longer than that crappy worthless college hoop bs ... that stuff is just annoying, over and over each weekend. At least , hockey is fun to watch. You don't feel like throwing something through the tube hoping it will end.


Mikey ... glad you agree. Riveria looked like I had never seen it before. Good work NBC. I also felt the NBC crew helped the GC coverage on Thurs/Fri. Usually , it's just pathetic because the CBS guys just goof around wondering why they are working with hacks like Tillingham and looking at endless pictures of water crashing against the shore. .... wow , cannot wait for all the seal shots this week and Tillingham going ' Isn't that just beautiful ' 5000x.

Good work NBC .... don't know why NBC and CBS just don't take over that GC and use their guys all the time

NBC knows how to do a golf tournament right. I always prefer the NBC broadcasts over CBS usually. I can't stand CBS's constant promos for their shows.

Contractually they can't always do that. TGC has a deal with CBS where they can show early coverage on Sat and Sun and replay the main coverage at night. If you'll notice, they don't do that when NBC has the coverage for the weekend.

Although the game ran late-- what a game too... Russia wins the Gold based on Ovechkin and Malkin uniting.

It would be way worse if the tourney had run way long (due to JB's appalling pre-shot routine) and they'd cut it shorter than they did.

Side note-- were they (the final group) even on the clock? I PVR'd it and couldn't believe how long it seemed like JB was taking...

IF that was anyone in my weekend group or in the group ahead of me, we'd have a little chat about it. All in good fun of course, but seriously who needs 8 practice swings?

First the hockey. I would not be considered a hockey fan in any circle, but the end of that game was amazing television. GREAT game, GREAT comeback, you can't complain about that.

I'm a long time fan of CBS golf coverage, and certainly have favored their telecast in the past. BUT after viewing these two tournaments back-to-back, I totally agree with the topic starter. NBC's coverage out-shined CBS's in every light. The variety of golfers and shots shown were superior on NBC. The angles were more interesting to look at. Heck, I pretty much hate Johnny Miller, and I didn't even mind his commentary this weekend. When you compare the two tournaments, NBC certainly did a better job. Bravo.

True, but that doesn't mean never. Pretty sure NBC had the match play last year and TGC had extensive coverage leading right into NBC's coverage of that on the weekend.

I thought Miller was pretty reserved and easier to listen to Sunday --- was it me, or did he sound a little hoarse, I thought maybe he was nursing a cold and that contributed. Dan Hicks really annoys me, you can't have everything.

True, but that's scheduled coverage of the early matches. Not bonus coverage of a weather delayed event. It would be nice if the Golf Channel could always show golf when it's played, but they just aren't allowed to. It would cut into their infomercial time.
