Sync Issues

You guys are always a wealth of knowledge, so I figured I'd give this issue a shot...

I decided to purchase a UPro after the rebate came out and I read many topics on syncing with a mac. I had the reoccurring issue everyone seems to have at first with the device not being recognized and mounting on the desktop. I emailed customer support and received this email...

Here are some instructions on formatting your device and restoring the files to your microSD card.

1. On the uPro, navigate to Format microSD in the Device Settings menu
2. At the warning screen, hold the left arrow button for 5 seconds
3. After the screen changes warning information, arrow to the left and select YES (highlighted selection will be lighter gray)
4. Screen will show “Please Wait! Format In Progress…” for a few moments, then return to Device Settings
5. Press the menu button twice to return to the main menu
6. Connect your uPro to your MAC
7. Open the uPro drive by double clicking it and verify it contains two folders: “course_data” and “system”
8. Click on this link: uProUsdRestore30-Mac
9. Click on Download and Save to your MAC (preferably the desktop)
10. Open the Disk Image that has downloaded to your MAC
11. Double click the restore file
12. Click “Open” then click “Start”

This will complete after approximately 10-15 minutes. Once complete, open the uPro drive on your desktop by double clicking it and double click the MacSync icon to synchronize the uPro to your MAC.

I followed this process and the device is now recognized (albeit not quickly) by my mac, and I was able to activate my account and download some courses. However, the upro disconnects itself from my computer repeatedly during the sync, requiring me to restart the process. I was able to get some courses onto the unit, but please tell me I will not have to go through this process every time!! I sent another email to UPro, and I have not gotten a response yet. Any ideas from you guys??

FYI.... I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2

[color="#1C2837"]I had no luck getting help from uPro but a member here, bytehoven send me instructions similar to yours and a link he'd gotten from them. I did it and it works pretty much flawlessly on my Mac now. I've had the uPro eject once or twice in the last several months, but very very rarely... Since its only happened a couple times, I haven't bothered to see if there is an answer for it. [/color]

I can live with it ejecting once or twice, so hopefully when I try to sync again it works, but it ejected about 3 times on the first sync attempt. I really hope they make it mac compatible for real in the future.

The weather is finally getting better, so I fired up my uPro for an expected trip to the links today or tomorrow. Low and behold, I'm having syncing issues. I upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) a couple of months ago, so I guess that is the reason for the problem. But I've also tried syncing using Windows XP via my Fusion partition on my Mac. It keeps giving me a reply of "uPro not found." So it appears that the problem is with the uPro, not Mac.

I tried to follow the instructions above, but step 8 is a dead end. The link has been removed.

I'm awaiting a call back from uPro on this now. Anyone else get this resolved and can you assist? If I get an answer from uPro, I'll post it here.

I have Snow Leopard too and what I find works for me is this:

1 - Turn on uPro and let it boot up
2 - Close out browser
3 - Plug in uPro

It will sometimes take a minute or two, but it will find it. In the rare event this doesn't work I reboot everything and try again. That hasn't failed me.

My uPro says no saves courses when I turned it on today and thats odd b/c I just used it 2 days ago. I went to synch it (I have a MAC) and it is not showing up in Finder and Mac does not seem to recognize it. What a pain!

I have a golfbuddy instead of a Upro. My golfbuddy will only work with leopard, since I have snow leopard, I'm screwed. Their customer service is a joke! They've had one hole on my course reversed, the thing thinks the tee box is the green! It was remapped by a golfbuddy guy but they haven't undated the course yet and it has been over a year. Calling customer service connects you to someone who barely speaks english and can't help with anything.

Only way I can download courses is to use a PC at the golfcouse. I hope Upro is better, it is the one I'd buy now.

Just recently bought a Upro. I'm also running OSX 10.6.3. Contacted customer service (30 minutes on hold), they sent me the disk image file download link, I then reformatted the Upro's sd card, or whatever it is.
The good news is it now works on my mac, but clearly the process on a mac is far from smooth. The device appears on the desktop, you doubleclick it to view it's contents, then open the synch software to update it with new courses, etc. it doesn't always work, sometimes returns error messages, but with perseverance it does the job.
On the other hand, I plug it into my (Vista) laptop from work, the device is recognized automatically, the synch software auto starts, and the synch process runs flawlessly.
Clearly Mac compatibility is a bit of an afterthought.

BTW, I really love the uPro. it's well worth the aggravation even if a mac is your only solution.
