Can anyone summarize what they are talking about in the attached YouTube video?

Grip tape layering.

It sounds like an effort to take out some of the taper on the grip with graduated layering of the tape in a staggered pattern down the length of the shaft.

The bloke on the camera would make a great stalker/peeping tom.

Agree, it sounds like they are trying to make it so that the grip doesnt have the layering/tapering effect. Basically putting more tape towards the head and less towards the butt end.

that sounds like a great idea, as i often feel my lower fingers losing touch with the grip. i asked a clubmaker to do it for me once, and he said it's too hard. doesn't seem so difficult to me. and i never understood why grips are tapered in the 1st place

I'm sure he said it in jest but I was thinking no wonder there is so much tour issued equipment on ebay. It's just laying around everywhere!

I think a lot of tour players put extra wraps on the lower part of the grip. I bought a tour issue Hibore a few years back and man that thing feels like a baseball bat. It's huge from top to bottom. (I sold the Hibore but still have the VS Proto it came with).

My friend does that on his irons. They feel really sturdy like that but he did say that it takes a lot longer to do his grips this way.

Really shouldn't take much longer. I keep little stacks of masking tape pre-cut in 2" increments (sounds like what the guy in the van does also). Then I can build up under either hand very quickly, or progressively build starting at the bottom with a 2" strip, then 4", 6", 8" and full length. I do offset the layers slightly so that there isn't a big step right at the bottom.

I can see where it would be tempting, seeing as how even if you got caught, the tour would only give you a short "vacation" and then you'd be welcomed back to get your card and make the big bucks!

But, I can see where even the strongest of men would feel some serious pangs of temptation on that little entryway area!

Golf Pride has tried a couple of straighter taper versions of grips, but I don't think they sold very well. I think up at that level, grip feel is one of those things where perfect is possible.

It seems to me, though, that if the van fellow would have paused for a moment, Molder could have explained what he meant...

I just put some of the new lamkins on my irons (3gen performance plus) that have very little taper. I can safely say that I will NEVER go back to standard taper grips. I'll either use a reduced taper grip or build it up from now on. If you think you might like it, I strongly suggest trying it. I would never have thought such a small thing could make such a big difference in feel ...
