Ultra-GI Technology on PGA
Excluding putters (especially long ones), what is the most ultra-GI technology used by any PGA professional. By that, I mean shovels, chippers, niblicks, 11 woods... Whatever gets it in the hole in the fewest strokes. Who is gaming the most GI and what are they using?

As far as I can tell, the most GI on tour comes from pros using the Ping G-series irons.

BTW - I intend to include past clubs as well. Any offset drivers or Slingshot irons?

Rocco always uses GI Callaway irons, atleast he played the X-20 set last year. Freddy Coupels uses a Squareway 3 wood. Els is using the Ftiz driver and it seems the G15 driver is more popular than the more player oriented I15 for the Ping guys. I am sure there are tons more, but these examples sprung to mind.

A lot of Zing 2 irons have seen action on the various tours over the years.

This is a funny thread. The last time I checked you win golf tournaments by having the lowest score, not on what equipment your playing.

Seriously? Another one of these posts. This entire forum is for equipment junkies, obviously this thread is gonna be about equipment. This thread isn't about how you win golf tournaments, he was simply asking a question. Glad you got a good laugh out of it though.

I wasn't sure what irons rooco mediate played until I read this thread! (The 20,000 other posts about RM playing x22s notwithstanding)

I believe Vijay goes back and forth with a 9 wood... I think he has a Callaway Steelhead + and a Cleveland Quad Pro.

Sorry dude, your wrong. His is bent to around 20-21 degrees I believe. A 9 wood bent to 3 wood loft would only be about 19 degrees open.

Kenny Perry's whole bag is GI stuff IIRC.

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal. 5-G
Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.
Odyssey Pro #1 black
Hoofer, Ecco, Bushnell
ProV1x-mostly

How about the number 4 player in the world with his bent arm impact playing some stock ping cushion shafts in stiff flex.

Tim Clark basically doesn't have an iron over 5 or 6 iron and has hybrids going up.

Kenny Perry's bag is kind of like a rental set you might get on vacation, just with stiffer shafts.

I think it would be fun to watch a tournament where the pros all had to play hybrid irons and chippers and regular flex 10.5 degree which is really 12 degree drivers and top flight gamer balls and see how they would shoot.

Loren Roberts' big ol' Taylormade 320s were definitely GI. I don't know if he still has them in the bag. Not shovels by any stretch but much more perimeter weighting than the RAC LT or 300 Forged.

You could serve oysters on the back of those clubs...

But, you have to give him some karma-balancing credit for keeping that r510 in the bag for a long time.

That's the spirit. It would be even better if they didn't have caddies and were forced to move their clubs around the course in a rickity rental pull cart complete with wobbly wheels. Ball retriever of course.

JD would have a small cooler of beer hanging from the pull cart handle.

I was at an event a couple of years ago and one of the guys (Joey Sindelar I think)had a Northwestern 9 wood in the bag that was not bent...just a 9 wood! It was just for the week due to the trees is what I heard him say to someone...saw him hit it a mile high over some big trees about 10 ft. from the hole from about 210 yards...was a hoot!

Billy Mayfair's also on the G15 bandwagon. For my money one of the better ballstrikers on the tour.

G-15's? X-22's? You guys aren't even trying.

Does anyone remember the Cleveland 11 wood that Vijay had in his bag at the 2007 AT&T???!!!

He bought it second hand from a store in the U.S (Play It Again Sports) because he said it would suit the rough at Congressional. It was said to have around 26* of loft and unlike his Callaway Steelhead 9 wood (which it replaced that week) it was kept standard aside from a reshaft. The fact that it was Cleveland was just a coincedence but it might've been what attracted it to him in the first place.

You would be wrong. Vijay used a a Cleveland 9wd bent to a 7wd (21* of loft) not 19*open.
He likes the look of an open clubbface.

And the whole artice amuses me on what so called "crutches" the PGA Tour players use. When not ONE of you that has posted could hold a candle to ANYTHING these pros (listed before) have done on the course. It just makes me laugh at the arrogance of some of the members of this board. I thought coming here (from Bombsquad) would surround me with players that somewhat knew what they were talking about. I guess not (in some respects).

Well then go back to Bombsquad....this site provides information and options....NOT a chance to buy overpriced equipment from the owners who want nothing more then to make a profit from you....remember you also can not hold a candle to a PGA Tour golfer....i enjoy this topic about Super GI clubs in the Tour Professionals bag as do many other members....

Back on Topic.....Vijay also used the A3 Boxer hybrid....very GI......

Unlike yourself, MANY of us expect more from Tour Pros that spend 8 hours a day, 6 days a week with a club in their hands playing and practicing. We dont expect them to have a need for, or want to game, GI clubs....
