Bought AP2's on Ebay

Please tell me they are not fakes...

Hi,

So I managed to score a set of AP2s on Ebay for $405.00. The listing had them as tour issued, no serial number. I bought them figuring that if they work fake I could return them. They just got shipped to my parents' house, so I had my dad snag this one picture. The "AP2" lettering in the top left looks a bit off.

However, I feel a bit better because they were not advertised as new, and they were shafted with X100's. It is really the low price that has got me spooked.

I'd be happy to hear any and all comments, as well as scolding for buying AP2's on ebay.

I can't say if those are fake, but there was a guy at my club that ended up with some fakes. His were advertised as new with Project X's. Hopefully you are good to go.

I have a tour issue 3 iron and it is slightly different from my friend's retail 3i that is the exact same model, . Maybe you could try checking the lofts to see if they are on or way off.

6 iron and 9 iron are the indicators for fakes, but that looks fine to me.

all i can say is i'd never buy titleist irons from ebay. Recently a friend bought a set from ebay and brought them to me to bend. The 4 iron snapped!! that's the only club i've ever broken and i've bent ping and taylormade cast clubs without bother in the past. I reckon they were fake.... but then again, i'm totally biased against Titleist forgings as i think they are rubbish.

the dont look authentic to me... the nickle box curve looks off to me.. they the look the same as the fakes i have.

I'm inclined to agree with the gentleman above. These clubs were a.) not advertised as new and b.) not equipped with the Project X shafts. Every fake set I have read about have shared those charateristics, and while I can understand that this doesn't exempt my clubs from the possibilty of forgery, it seems pretty close to it.

Also, what are the defining charateristics of the imposter 6 and 9's?

I've seen about 3 set of fake ap2, all with different characteristic, your set look pretty good to me!

There's couple of threads with few pictures that will shed some light about 6 and 9 iron being authentic and counterfeits. Remember those are the older AP2 sets.

Those are legitimate!
If the tails of the 6 and 9 irons curve downwards, then it is fake, but here, they stop before curving down. Congrats on a great set.

I bought fake ap2's from china for $298 and the 6 and 9 do curve like said above. That was the only indication that they were fake. Authentic serial # on six iron and all... The fake project x were junk, and the hosel size is .370 I reshafted with GAT tour 95 and love them... Kind of funny but I hit them better than my Real 755's...

When I disassembeld them I found that the chinese fakers do a pretty good job at simulating real Titleist charachteristics. Everything weighed what it should stock. Loft and lie were correct... Clubs even had the same D3 swingweight...

My suggestion is that if you did get burned with a set of fakes is to reshaft them and give them a try... remember the hosel inner size is probably .370 like my fakes were.

I am not trying to promote counterfeit clubs, unfortunately this is the world we live in.

^ if your patient enough there's great deals on eBay. Not every club is fake, just have to be smart and reqest better pics and more detailed info on the clubs. If it's too good to be true then...?

Most people who buy fake clubs on the interwebs don't even know they are fakes...They just think they don't like the clubs and resell them on ebay or trade them into a store. I bet every set of fake AP2's out there will see multiple owners in it's life time and besides the orginal counterfeiter most of them will never know.

I was just comparing them to my set of 09 ap2s (which i just sold on ebay because i got the new 2010 ap2s..) and was thinking the same thing. the p and the a are fatter than mine, and mine were bought at golf galaxy last year. Mine sold for $405 today and were used for 1year if that tells you anything.

Brizzy...I have a set that looks just like yours. My new 6 and 9 irons are curved identical to yours. I too think mine are fakes and have sent pictures to Titleist along with the serial number on the 6 iron. I'm still waiting for them to contact me. I also committed the cardinal sin and purchased my set off eBay. The seller I purchased from had a 100% rating and 8599 transactions. Go figure. You never know I guess. I will say though they feel and perform pretty good so I may keep them. The first thing that alerted me was that the small AP2 emblem on the toe of the 4 iron was missing when I got them. Hmmmmmm I said. Of course the seller denies all knwoledge of this and is more than willing to give my money back in full. I added a couple of pictures of my custom ordered set from Titleist through golfsmith so folks can see the difference in fonts.
