Need Course Suggestions!!!

Somewhere in the upper midwest

I have looked around at the topics there is a lot of great info, but I'm hoping for suggestions from people familiar with the areas.

My best friend of 20 years has lived in Michigan for several years, near Grant. I live in Chattanooga, TN. We are talking about meeting somewhere near the middle this month, probably Sunday the 11th and Monday the 12th.

Cincinatti is about halfway, but it seems by the reviews in the Cincy thread there isn't much good golf. I don't mind driving further than him if it means us playing 2 great golf courses, but don't know where we can meet to do that.

I would say money isn't an object, but I'm not spending over $100 for a round, so I guess it is. However, I'm willing to pay premium money for a premium golf course.

2 days, 2 golf courses, probably 36 per day. Help me find a destination. I appreciate anyone taking the time to respond.

Northern Michigan is probably where you'll find the largest concentration of really good courses, though I know it's not really meeting in the middle. I'm no expert on Ohio or Indiana, so there may be some areas in those states that I'm not aware of. I know French Lick, IN has a nice resort, but I think that's above your $100/round price ceiling.

Another option in Michigan if you want to save 3-4 hours of driving would be to hit a couple of courses in the Northern Metro Detroit area. Courses that come to mind are Shepherd's Hollow, The Orchards, Fieldstone, or maybe Boulder Pointe.

Here is a course in Kentucky that I have played and liked:

Old Silo, it's in Mt. Sterling and not a bad drive from mid-Michigan. It was US Open qualifier course in 2007. There are cheap motels in the area so good for an over-nighter.

You might get more help with a more accurate subject. Cincinnati/Indiana is nowhere near the upper midwest. Upper midwest is Wisconsin, Minnesota, Dakotas to most people.

That said, there are a lot of great courses in southwest Michigan. They might be a little chilly this time of year, with the wind coming off the lake, though. I'd look in Indiana, if I were you.

I don't see what is all that wrong with Cincinnati to be honest. I don't think there is a ton of great golf, but there is certainly enough.

Elks Run is good and that's $79 for 36 holes. I haven't played Stonelick Hills, but that's supposed to be strong. Shaker Run is good. And in NKY you have Fox Run and Lassing Pointe.

Throw in a Reds game one night, a trip to Montgomery Inn and that's a pretty good couple of days.

I will tell you what would be a fine golf trip for you and your buddy.

Stay at the Marriot North in West Chester Ohio on Union Centre blvd. It's in a very nice area, and there are all sorts of restaurants within a mile of the place. It's about half way in between the two courses, and it's right on highway 75, which you will take to get to both places.

Play Shaker Run in Lebanon, Ohio. It's about 15 miles north from the hotel. [url="http://www.shakerrungolfclub.com"]www.shakerrungolfclub.com[/url] They have 27 holes, but make SURE to play the original 18....Lakeside/Woodlands. The new 9 is nice also, and you may want to give that a run on the second 18. Will cost about $115 for 36.

The other course is Stonelick Hills near Batavia. It's about 24 miles south, closer to the city. [url="http://www.stonelickhills.com"]www.stonelickhills.com[/url] It's a newer course, but already considered one of the best public courses in Ohio. 36 here will cost about the same....$112 or so.

I GUARANTEE you won't be disappointed doing this.

+1 on Indy for somewhere in between.

The Fort, Purgatory, Brickyard is nice, Crooked Stick, Trophy.. all great tracks

Hopefully this isnt to late for the guy but i agree with your assesment. You could toss in Elks Run and depending on conditions Legendary run. Yankee Trace in centerville is supposed to be a good track and only about 30 minutes from west chester.
