Can the slope feature be turned off?

I have read as much as I can read about slope versus no-slope laser rangefinders. I completely understand when a slope feature is and isn't legal (including handicap rounds) and respect the different opinions I've read. All that aside, can the slope feature in the Bushnell Tour V2 Slope Edition be turned off? I am looking for 100% confirmation that the feature can be disabled....and how easily? I believe (for what its worth) there is a time and place for many things in life and having the slope feature does add value in certain practice situations. For the record, I would never use the feature when posting a round or in competitive play. Lastly, yes I agree there are many other variables that come into play besides quantifying a slope....such as wind, ball flight, playing ability, etc, etc.

The manual says the following:

[quote] For your convenience, the Slope Edition also contains the PinSeeker® Mode/feature. If at any time you prefer not to use the Slope Mode, simply press the MODE button to get to PinSeeker® or Standard with Automatic SCAN Mode.[/quote]

The issue with tournaments though is you may be honest and not use slope during the tournament, but it will NOT be legal for play in tournament since it can measure slope. Our local rules are as follows:

Our policy is only devices that can not measure slope and can not measure wind can be used, even if the feature can be disabled.

One expensive option is the new Leupold GX4, which has interchangeable face plates. I was looking at them, but $500 is pretty steep for a device I don't use often.

As far as the new Leupold GX4 with the inter-changeable faceplates, even though this disables the slope feature, I'll bet that they still don't even allow this unit for tournaments. I can understand other slope units not being allowed due to honesty concerns, but even though the inter-changeable faceplates have a visual recognition, the USGA will still probably outlaw them IMHO.

But, I'm sure Leupold did their homework and wonder why they would release a $500 unit if they weren't sure that it would be deemed legal? If this unit will NOT be legal, then why have it when golfers can use the GX2, for less money?

Thanks. Both offered valuable insights. I played in some events and they made it clear to disable the feature, but I can see how some events would take the next step and say don't bring them on the course at all. Much to think about since the ideal situation would be to have both....if money was no object!

I really want both as well. When I go on travel to a course I never played before, its a valuable function to have the slope version. Where's my stimulus package?
