White Hot vs White Steel Two Ball Blades

Need some opinions
I keep thinking about giving a 2-ball blade a try...don't care for the look of the DFX so am looking at the WH and the WS. Hard to get a good idea about these on the astroturf at the local golfsmith. Any thoughts...is the the WH too soft? How does the WS feel? Any opinions appreciated. Thanks

I agree go with White Hot. I have a White Hot Blade and it's sweet. Best putter I've ever owned. :idhitit:

I have to say that I was in the market for a White Hot 2-ball blade after using a friends on the course one day. I found a good deal on a White Steel 2 ball blade so I purchased that instead. Big Mistake. The weighting is completely different. I've always used a Anser or Newport 2 style putter so it has been very difficult to make the transition to a face balanced putter like the WS (which is why I've only played about 3 rounds with it).

So if were fitting you, I would ask you what kind of putter(s) you have been using and then make a recomendation based on that.

(if you decide to go with the White Steel, I've got one I will sell you in mint condition).

  • 3 weeks later...

I just bought a White Steel mallet after spending about 45 minutes going back and forth between the mallet and the blade (and a little with the center shafted - whcih rolled the ball great but the cosmetics were weird with a part of the front "ball" cut out for the center shaft).

Interestingly, I felt like the mallet consistently audibly "clicked" at impact, where the blade didn't. I like the "click" (hence, I didn't want the White Hot). Using this with HX Tour. Feels pretty nice.

Also, the mallet seemed to roll the ball better, despite the fact that the blade looked more "correct" at setup. Who knows.

It really is a pure feel thing. Some people really like the soft feeling inserts, hence they prefer the white hot. I recently bought a White steel 2 ball after using both on the putting green for about an hour. While I liked the softness of the WH on shorter putts (inside 15') I felt like I had to muscle it a bit more on longer putts.

I ended up going with the WS version cause my distance control was better. I've never really liked the soft inserts for putters, so I must say it really is a personal preference.

I was at my local golf store last night doing some testing between these putters also. I had the opposite, the blade style had quite a loud "click" but yet the mallet didn't. Personally I didn't like the "click" and thought it was distracting. I wondered if the insert was loose or something. :vava:

You will find that from putter to putter apparently. I was putting with all two-ball putters last night and some had a very audibel "click" to them and others were more muted. Variance in manufacturing maybe? I didn't like either......Baby Ben it might be! ;)

That's strange - my unscientific sample size included three of each, and there was a definite "click"/"no click" pattern.

I hope that's not a loose insert causing the click . . .

I have putted with both on a putting green. My WH vs my pal's WS. I found the WH to be more forgiving than the WS when I would intentionally mishit it towards the heel or toe more by about 1/4". My WH does have my own "tour fill" which added about 20 grams of headweight so that could've been a factor. Like all other comments-The WH is a lot softer and has to be "hit" more.
