Blackwolf Run Deals

Until May 6th you can play the original 18 which is the same layout the women played the 98 and 2012 US Open, for $60! Then from May 7th til June 6th it goes to $144. Still not bad. What I'm wondering is...after the renovations last year, has anyone played it to know if there is still dirt and patchy grass visible? This is what Erin Hills did after their remodeling and when I called they said everything looked great. Which turned out to be false. Blackwolf Run is claiming everything looks good...... looking for REAL answers.

Where did you see this special? If the conditions are at least decent and it is only $60 I may be heading up to Kohler this weekend.

And, for what it's worth, the Bull is $50 for 18 with a cart between now and May 1st. Odd how many world class tracks there are in SE Wisconsin, isn't it?

The Kohler "deal" is an annual special that they run. They also have similar deal in fall, typically starting Nov 1st until they close. Usually, it's the Blackwolf Meadow Valley course (which recently was completely burned off to finish seading the entire course, along with some minor modifications) and Whistling Straits Irish course. You can play either for the insane price mentioned. Of course, this year it's the original course at Blackwolf due to the previously mentioned course work. I'm not sure what they're plan will be in the future.

Kohler also runs a few early and late season tournaments, called the Kohler Cup, over a weekend. It plays the Original Blackwolf and Straits courses, and usually included a night at one of the Kohler hotels.

In any case, I've talked with some friends who played in this year Kohler Cup, as well as another friend who's a caddie at both courses. Everything I've herad up to this point was that the courses are in amazing condition, and the caddie has said that it's the best condition the Kohler courses have been at this time ever.

So it's not $60 to play the original 18, it's the $144, which is still a super good deal for that course, but $60 would have realllll been nice.

Went to Blackwolf Run yesterday to play the Womens US Open setup. Wow! The course was in amazing shape and it was only $144. We were the first group off the tee which was a first for me on a course of this caliber. Hole #1's tee shot is now my favorite opening shot of any course I've played. And after a birdie at #2 I was feeling pretty good. #4's green complex was down right scary and the approach to #5 was beautiful with the peninsula green. #6 played a little over 200 yards from the blacks and was my favorite par 3. My cousin kicked it in from 125 yrds for an eagle on 7 and followed it up with a birdie on 8. The back nine however was a little more difficult even though I birdied 14. I ended up shooting 82 which I was thrilled about. When we walked back into the clubhouse they asked if we wanted to replay it. We t-d off at 7:30 and were done at 11. So we asked if the Irish course over at Whistling Straits was available and it was at 1:20 for $107. So we drive over and when we check in we asked if there was any way to get on the Straits course at a cheaper rate. The kid behind the counter almost let us but decided he better not. So what he did do was, let us play the Irish for $60 and got us on a 12:20, an hour early.(There was nobody there. I only saw 2 groups on the straits) I gave him a $20 for making our day even better. I have already played the Straits course so to be able to say Ive played all the courses in Kohler is a great feeling. I have to admit though, I was not as impressed with the Irish course. A couple nice holes but nothing to shout about. To many man made lakes for me on a "links" setup. I felt the same way about #5 on the straits. But by no means am I complaining, I mean I just played 2 unbelievable courses for $204. Didnt' get to see the sheep today though, bummer. It was also fun listening to the head pro talk about the weeks leading into the PGA and how they're going to get the players on for their practice rounds. But anyway, just wanted to fill u in on my day. The rates jump back up over $200 June 6 so if you wanna play, go now!!!

I haven't played those courses for 13 years or so. I used to love both the Meadows and Blackwolf. Pete Dye must have been abused as I child I believe. There are some ridiculous shots on Blackwolf. The greens can be tortuous and there are so many blind shots with hazards that you can't see very well lurking around every corner. 82 is a damn fine score on that monster from the back tees for sure. I miss that place.
