I just managed to get myself a set of custom Ping Anser Forged Irons from Japan. Here are some in hand pics. Noticed the milling marks on the face, and also the beveled leading edge. Planning to play these this weekend. Will report on how they play.

I hate to say this because I'm not a Ping fans whatsoever but that is a very nice nice nice set of iron. Wow Congrats on the pick up.

Look very nice - similar to S57 from the top. I've gamed the S57 for over a year and would like to see how these compare to the S57...if they make it to the US.

I see the 5-PW which is a "set" from Japan. Did you opt for a 4 iron?

Those look amazing. I'm guessing no lefty release. If they're going with a classic looking forged cavity back why strengthen the lofts so much?

Japanese companies only release some of their clubs in Japan.
An American company releases a model in Japan only???

Which former or current PING iron do they most resemble?

They kind of remind me of the I5s with perhaps a little less offset.

Great looking clubs.  If they are built like Ping's other irons, they'll last forever.  My TEE CNC forged irons have similar milling on the face.  My irons stop dead which is nice.

Not atypical at all... it's a totally different market and TM and Callaway, etc. have been doing that for years. Just think about the r7 Forged, the 08 TPs, the Legacy forged, etc.

With the picture of the back of the iron I noticed it is two-tone at the bottom of the head. Are there two materials used? Different weighting?

Yes, there is a tungsten weight at the bottom! To lower the COG.

What happened to the finish? The ones I hit in Japan had a very shiny chrome finish---these look more matte.. Too bad if they changed finishes---the shiny chrome gave them a distinctive look, these look more like the traditional ping finish. By the way the thing ping kept going on and on about in Japan wasn't so much the forging but the fact that the whole club is almost totally milled after the initial shape forging.. Evidently that is where a lot of the cost comes in...

I like the satin finish on those better than the shiny chrome. Is that how they all will be now?

Sweetness! I'm really looking forward to reading your impressions, ITH. I've got the i15s and love them to death. The Anser Forged irons look like they'd play similar but look so much perdier.

Fall time frame if they decide to bring them here. That decision still isn't made, as they still don't know what the market here would be. Japan has a 50 percent forged market, but here it is less than 10 pecent. Other than the enthusiasts here they may just be too pricey for our domestic market.

Those sound like my type of people! I see where they are coming from, although there has never been anything inferior about any of Ping's cast offerings

I'd reconsider that to the possibility that the issue is carbon steel versus stainless. Hiro Honma irons are certainly not scoffed at. Yet they are produced from carbon steel using the wax lost casting method.
