Beware of FEDEX policy when you deliver from KINKOS

I canceled my acct as of today, i'm done with them.
FEDEX really pissed me off today, despite all the problems that I have through the years having their acct....today is the one that made me really pissed.

I shipped a package and let the KINKOS guy handle all the measurement and paper work while i waited there.

It was 24X24X14 at 23 lbs with total $ 120, be aware that I have the receipt saying all that from kinkos.

A couple months went by, I got a bill from FEDEX saying that it was:

25X24X14 at 24 lbs and total charges is $144. Not to mentioned that they charge me on putting 118 instead of 18 on the address.

Of course i made a phone call and talked to the manager and sure enough she don't give a sh!t and told me that my receipt from kinkos is only estimate, price subject to change. I also mentioned that " what i have to do to my customer for that extra charge? ", She goes " it's none of my business". I asked her also about the kinkos weight machine on how often they calibrate and how do they control then to make sure they have no problem like i have here. She goes " that is not my job and not in my dept".

Her attitude was basically don't care with my problem and she expect that I pay my bill period. I told her that I will post this problem on the internet forum and make sure every body knows about this type of problem, she goes "sorry to hear that and go ahead do that". I was so speechless and very disappointed with FEDEX. They basically try to nickle and dime us every chance they have. Imagine how many of us have this problem.

I hope FEDEX lost more that $24 that i have to pay extra and Yes, I'm a nobody against big giant company like FEDEX...but at least i let out on the forum and inform every body what my problem are with them.

BTW, Once they made mistake over charge me for 800lbs instead of the real golf club box weight at 5lbs. Of course this was an easy settlement out of my favor. What i'm saying here is that FEDEX made so many stupid mistake and cost us time and money.

Rant over!

Unfortunately these shipping companies basically have us by the short an curlies. There is not one that seems to stand above the rest in customer service.

What I find the most frustrating and I am sure you feel the same, is that if I did business like this I would be out of a job, yet many companies continue to get away with this type of service.

I have had my best luck with USPS, good luck with you new provider.

UPS does the same thing. I will drop off my packages, then a month later get a bill with an upcharge. One of them recently said the box was an inch bigger than I said it was. But the label on the box and the receipt BOTH said the box was 24x18x18. But UPS said it was 25x18x18. And I even bought the box at the UPS Store! They ended up refunding the extra charge because I could prove my box was 24x18x18. They said sometimes boxes get misshapened a little and appear a little larger than they actually are when the laser scans them. I just luckily checked my account that time so I have no idea how many times they did this to me before and I just paid it. I always check now though. I dont know if cancelling your acct is going to do you any good in the long run though because with the exception of the USPS, this happens with ALL of the shipping companies eventually.
USPS is the way to go.

I'm a fan of USPS, plain and simple. Things get there, intact, and I pay what I pay so there's none of this "after the fact" nonsense. Fedex blames Kinko's, Kinko's blames Fedex and we're left holding the bag. Complete foolishness.

"All it takes for evil to triumph is that good men say nothing." Or something like that. You did the right thing, Joe, small as it may seem.

My solution is not to have an account. What can they charge a month later? My paypal account? Not possible. My credit card account? Nope. Go back and try to bill the recipient? No way.

It's pay as I go and the deal is done.

I've run into a couple if knuckleheads at USPS before too. They try to re-measure or re-weight a package I already spec'd and paid for at home, we argue, then I leave and go to another post office. All the shipping companies can be a pain, but there are ways around it.

What sucks is every shipping company does the same thing. USPS is nice but not as convenient as UPS or FedEx for having an account or at least that I know about and their tracking is sub standard. There are also terrible CS reps and good ones, you got a bad one or one having a bad day. Such is life, I wouldn't get too mad and close my account because of this.... Unless you wanna open an account with UPS only for the same things to happen.

UPS does the same thing, I guess the premise is that the scales there are not officially FedEx property and not maintained by FedEx employees and thus the final pricing doesn't come until its weighed at a FedEx shipping location. Gotta take it to a "FedEx staffed" location to get an official weight/price. Same thing at UPS Stores. Sucky, but that's how it works.

if you pay for the shipping thru paypal they can and will charge your paypal account at a later date. its happened to me. (using paypal shipping thru ebay and paying for ups shipping thru my paypal acct)

I've closed my acct as of today right after I clear out the mess they've made and she didn't care either when I told her I want my acct to be closed NOW.

USPS is always been my first choice after the cut down my discount rate a few years back without any noticed. I've spend 7-10 G back then on fedex, and yet they want more of my money if i want to keep my discount rate.

So I switch to USPS priority, because FEDEX rate was so much higher without the discount rate i was getting.

On USPS we at least only having a personnel problems not a company operation problem. Some postal employee are just basically lazy and don't like to work hard enough to take care or search out package, other than that they are the best IMO.

I USED to have a UPS account too, but twice they put some other guy's shipping items on my account since I guess both of us lived in the same apartment complex but of course had different unit #s. I would then get a bill shipped to me saying they would be charging my CC for the month's billing. I first called the UPS customer support and first they said they saw the problem when the billing address wasn't typed in correctly thus having it end up on my account. Then a few months later, same thing I get a bill. I call again and ask why am I getting charged when I don't ship anything that I don't pay directly and can I turn off that auto payment, they said they couldn't. So I just told them to close my account since I don't want the hassle of being charged for their mistakes every month.

As much of a PITA as it is to get there before they close, I still prefer Priority Mail.

Either way, shipping golf clubs is getting annoying, especially with the overlength charges on drivers and driver shafts. I'm glad I'm getting out of the ho-ing game and concentrating on buying a crapload of putters.

yup, Priority Mail rules. And I dont even deal with going to the post office anymore. I just have them come to my house and pick it up now. All you have to do is go to https://carrierpickup.usps.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CarrierPickup.woa, fill it out, and the next morning they will pick it up at your front door or wherever you leave it. You just really cant beat that IMO

Huh. You'd think that FedEx would consider Kinkos an official location, considering that they're owned by FedEx.

That really sucks that they'd screw you like this. I'm still going to stick with FedEx because I've never had any issues, but this will definitely be in the back of my mind.

+1 with pay as you go. I prefer UPS as I have the exact tracking as the package travel to the destination....USPS don't have this..only shows information received and delivered...but not in transit or where things are. With UPS, I usually do measurements at home, pay from home PC, drop it to UPS location, they re-weight/measure and print me a label that they RECEIVED the package. FEDEX, they don't do this..hence the experience you might encountered Joe. Though I do agree with you, FEDEX sucks!

Fedex strikes again!

Freaking unbelievable!

I shipped package to Italy for a customer ( by his request ) and they were done at FEDEX main shipping central here by SFO. They claimed to my customer saying that the weight is off again by a couple pounds and gave my customer a hard time to pay extra or they won't release the package.

To me this is a fraud! I just can't believe this coming from a big huge company.

FEDEX, stop your scam business practise.

If you drop off a package at Kinkos or a Fedex staffed drop, they'll give you a receipt. Just ask.

The advantage to having an account is that you can also get a discount. Amazon offers one.

As to the original poster, I agree that they do adjust the weight too often. But the other charge that you received for a mistake in the address is your fault, not theirs. 118 is a lot different than 18.

Ive been with FedEx for 11 years and I can tell you this. If you are spending 7-10k a year on shipping, you need to stop going to Kinkos and get ahold of a sale rep. This will stop you from having to go and deal with them at Kinkos. If you wan to talk to a sales rep let me know and I can give you a contact number.

The whole weight issue is this. These packages hit scales in every hub they go to. Yes the scales are all going to be different +/- 1lb. It sucks, but it happens. I know in my building our scales are tested weekly by our maintenace techs.

The last part about being charged extra for the wrong address is 100% correct. You put the wrong address on the box and made it undeliverable. FedEx will charge the shipper for having to fix the address. FedEx loses money everytime a package isn't delivered the day it comes in. My suggestion is that you use a online account and print your own labels, and don't use the handwritten ones because those are easy to misread and put in the wrong info. Make sure you double check your information! If you priint a shipping label and it has wrong info on it throw it away and print another. You will only be charged for each tracking id that is delivered.

I hope this helps you in some way. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Ever watch "undercover boss"? I think a lot of companies could learn a good lesson from this, CS reps are the "face" of your company, they are the initial contact point almost every one that comes in contact with your company sees. I've owned several small businesses and KNOW that the lowest point on the totem pole is where the impressions are made.

 • 4 weeks later...

FYI I owned (not anymore:yahoo:) for 8 years and got the acct through a friend who work for FEDEX and still work there wit a special discount. One day FEDEX change the discount rate without any noticed, That is just ONE of the reason I canceled the acct.

Just not happy with FEDEX.

FEDEX just sucks big time.

I ship 2 or 3 large boxes a week through UPS and get the same charge backs as others have described. I've got charge backs claiming boxes were 4 inches larger then what was submitted. I've gone as far as take photos of the boxes with a tape measure showing the size. I keep dreaming I'll will wake up some morning, turn on CNN and see a story where the Consumer Affairs Division or the Dept. of Justice has filed charges against UPS for over charging there customers millions of dollars with the use of rigged lasers scanners.
