Anyone hit/play the new PING G15 Hybrid?

Recommended Posts

In one of the recent Golf Digest's, they refer to it as a "sore thumb", but it gets very high marks for play/workability/etc.

I'm curious: how does this stack up/compare against all the current/latest(in the last 2-3 years) hybrids?

Is this just as good/better/worse as the: Cally FT Fusion/ Adams/TM/ Tour Edge/Cleveland/Cobra Baffler...etc?

Looking to possibly add this hybrid to my new bag...wanted to get some feedback from you all, thanks much.

Tried the 20&17 deg. for about 5 rounds but it wasn´t consistent at all - hook low diffcult from rough etc. I´m very happy with the G-line but not with hybrid. Traded in for a 3wood and couldn´t be happier.
But try one and hit it like an iron!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think its only me.........

Got a 20* recently to replace an Adams A4 19* (Javln) that I had for about a year. For comparison's sake the A4 was around a 220-yard club for me but had a lot of distance dispersion, and the feel of the shaft left a lot to be desired IMHO. When looking for a replacement, I really did not want to like the Ping because of the looks and offset, but my lowly game doesn't really qualify me to be such a snob. On the monitor, compared it (with the plain old stock TFC stiff) to the Adams A7 (19), Cleveland DST Launcher (20.5) and Cobra Baffler Rail H (20?--can't recall). The G15 was considerably longer (~25 yards) than the others and, indeed, so long that I thought the monitor was juiced and said so to the clerk; I was getting carry yardages of 245, 250, 255, which is around the carry yardage I get on a decent 85% swing with my 3W. Checked out a demo G15 to take to a range and got the same results as in the monitor: very high flight, yet not ballooning and extremely long with shots dropping all around the 250 sign. Sold.

I've had similar results on the course so far in three rounds. Very long and straight, with shots that land fairly soft and only roll around 10 yards at most. I would agree with another commenter that the lighter head of the Ping compared to my previous A4 makes it takes a greater distance penalty from the rough, but even with that distance loss it's considerably longer than the A4 was for me and much, much easier to hit.

I would say it's definitely worth a try. I didn't want one, but the club's performance dragged me into it. Only issue is that it has opened up a huge distance gap with my 4i, which is only around a 200-yard club for me. I have an open spot in the bag and may add a 23* if the results on the course hold over the next month or so.

What shaft did you get?

250 carry with the 20* is nothing short of JB Holmes. I would be proud.

The reason is that like many chops (particularly those that, like me, tend to play with better golfers who compound their advantage by also being long hitters) I am too dumb to swing at a controllable 80-85% most of the time and tend to whack at the ball with all the energy my 6' 6", 235-pound frame can possibly muster, which frequently sends said ball screaming into far-flung woods, ponds, sandy beaches and other exotic naturescapes on and around the course.

Also, there's the three-putting. black%20eye.gif

And, in answer to the previous post and to get a little closer to the original topic, shaft is just a TFC Stiff, +1" over standard (which boosts distance somewhat, other things being equal).

I've been playing the G15 20* since last fall and for me it is a bomb. I have the TFC 149 shaft which suits my swing speed nicely. I get a mid to high ball flight with just a little run out off the deck. It looks pretty funky -- "sore thumb" is a good analogy, but this is the best hybrid I've played. Stock shaft works. You can upgrade to the Serano for possibly a more penetrating ball flight but for me this club just works. I have no problems with it out of the rough, either.

Wow, I am surprised it holds up with your swing speed. That says something about the TFC shaft. Thanks!

I may consider sending my in to PING to get the TFC shaft installed for a higher ball flight. Or I may just sell it and buy another.

Went to a PING demo day yesterday to buy an i15 Hybrid. I tried a bunch of 20 degree set-ups and was hitting the ball well...very easy club to hit...but it was taking a little too much work to hit my usual draw with the i15 as the rep said that the i15 was fade-biased. The PING rep handed me the G15 and it was MUCH easier to hit for me-almost automatic...long and straight.

Decided on the spot to get the G15 and the Serrano shaft fit my swing best.

The PING rep was by far the busiest of any rep yesterday...and he sold TONS of G15 product...everyone loved the 4-wood...and I had the same positive experience hitting it so I bought one with a Serrano shaft.

I have hit the G15 20 degree with the stock TFC stiff shaft and found it to look awkward everywhere except at address. The G15 had a mid-mid high trajectory and was very easy to hit and always went straight. Compared to my Nickent 4DX IW it is a little more forgiving but the 4DX has a more penetrating trajectory and looks better. I did like the fact that the G15 didn't appear to be overly closed at address. All in all these will be the hybrids that I will look to to replace the 4DXs when they wear out. I think for serious players an upgraded shaft might be necessary as the TFC seemed rather ordinary.

I have a 23* with the stock tfc stiff shaft. Overall I find it to be a solid club - very high, but flat ball flight, and hitting it anywhere near the sweet spot results in a good result. The only place where this club didn't stand out for me is hitting out of the rough - I personally just really struggle with it from taller grass.

I have recently put the G15 23 degree with the stock stiff shaft in my bag and love it. It replaced the cobra tws and I have the adams A4 3 hybrid. As good as I hit the g15, I'm strongly considering the 20 deg to replace the Adams. It takes a little getting used to the looks but one range session and I don't even notice it anymore.
