According to Golf Digest this month the Ansers will cost $1520 for a set of 8. Assuming a tax of 6% that is $1610. The last time I looked you could order them from Japan for $1640 (also for 8) plus $60 for shipping but no tax.... So roughly $90 more to have a set 5 months early for those that really want one.
MSRP maybe, actual US retail won't be THAT high.

All the other clubs they listed were at the U.S. retail price (FT Tour, TM Superdeep, Adams hybrid, Callaway X24 etc. etc.). Makes no sense to show retail for all the others but MSRP for the Pings..

I apologized if this was "ansered", but whats with the K line of drivers, what happened to G and I
The K line of drivers goes with the rest of the game improvement K series irons and hybrids like Adams. The G and i drivers remain in the line up and probably won't be replaced until next year. Guess is i20 and G20 with hopefully a premium Anser driver (mostly guesswork based on the trademarks they have registered)..

I'm not guessing here, I'm telling you US retail will not be that high.

I don't know how you can say that since Ping hasn't released those numbers yet and won't until the sales meeting. At best some of the top retailers got an idea of wholesale prices but those weren't firm yet either. We all know who makes the final decision on prices and he doesn't waste his time posting on forums.

I certainly hope they won't be $1520 because at that price Ping won't need a large inventory as very few will buy them. For $1500 you can get a real forged club that looks like a forging and in many cases can be customized to the hilt (scratch). Miura, Epon, etc. etc...The only reason to spend that kind of money on a set of Pings is to have them for a conversation piece. I can attest from personal experience (demoing and playing with a set in Japan and here) they feel awful even compared to their own i15s and S57s let alone a real forging...

Obviously Ping was going for the complex "forged" iron (with forging 8620, machining the entire iron, tungsten insert, air gap etc. etc) to capture the prestige oriented Asian market. It is kind of a crossover iron in that technically it is a forging but not a forging in the truest sense of the concept. But it has lots of "technology" in it to capture the Asian market.. It has to be high priced or it loses its value to the owner in Japan. At anything over $999.00 here I believe they will struggle to sell these here in any great numbers..

OK, come back in August and see if I'm right or not, so far I've said higher than $1200 and less than $1500, and I'm not guessing.

I think that is a pretty good range. The problem is $1200+ is DOA and $1520 is a fall down laughing number. It is probably a good thing that they won't have any volume here to speak of because at those prices they won't need inventory. It will also serve them well not to send out demo sets, just leave a few pieces with the reps. for fitting van visits.. I can't imagine people other than the most devoted collector paying that money for these after demoing them versus other ping offerings let alone a real forging.

I should have a set next week (friend bringing them from Japan not ordering them on line) and intend to sell them immediately for $1400 (making a small profit). But this guy that is buying them is a ping collector that wanted an early set..

Interesting how Lee Westwood is not using much of the current product let alone any new stuff. Everything else is older equipment including the old i10 irons. In the ad about his win they say he won with ping equipment preferring not to mention which equipment.

The picture of the 56's look great also, can't wait to see those beside the Anser's to make a decision on what I will be playing.

I won't play another set of Pings until they stop putting that stupid "W" on the Pitching Wedge. Of course it's a wedge - so is a gap wedge, so is a Sand wedge, so is a lob. But there's no W on those - why not? "It don't make no sense"
That makes perfect sense. Since the Gap wedge has a U on it, it should be eliminated from consideration as well.. And all the S56s have a W on the toe (for Wolfram)---many people won't touch a club that contains Wolfram (74)..

Oh yes, that's a great reason not to play one of the best clubs around...

Yup, pretty much what my reaction was when I was told the retail price.

BTW, just caught word these have been pushed to November instead of August/September.

"W" is the chemical symbol for Tungsten. The "W" is to signify irons with Tungsten weighting.

That makes perfect sense since they seem to be in short supply in Japan right now. I don't know if it is popularity or just low inventory by ping. My friend that brought me a set from Japan last week had to go to several shops before he found a set. I have a buyer for them here, but maybe I will up the price a little if they won't be available here until Novemberrolleyes.gif

Or even an Anser 2. I've been dumbfounded ever since they released the Redwood line that neither an Anser 2 or 4 was included.
But in all fairness, I'm almost always dumbfounded.
Or just dumb.
