I did stop by the shop Monday and saw the new stuff. Originally I hadn't intended to but the rep. was late and was still there. What I learned is the Rapture is no more and is replaced by the super game improvement K-15 stuff which looks every bit the game improvement category. But this is priced much lower than the premium Rapture line was ($299 for the driver for example). He had three S56 irons. He had one Anser 6 iron which looked very much like an i15 with a ferrule and chrome plating at address. Those will be very limited in how many they offer in the U.S.. The cost on these might be in the $1300-$1500 range but that is only a guess. The S Tour Wedges were the best looking pieces of everything he had. He didn't know anything about the materials the wedges would be made of or even if they were different between the chrome and antique finish. He wasn't as well informed as many reps. are. The S56s and S Tour Wedges have similar looking cavities and a glued in weight/vibration adjustment insert like previous models (just different cosmetics). He did say much of the product would start showing up in August, so slightly sooner than in the past. He may have had some information on putters but I had to leave by then, so if anyone saw the putter line up any information would be helpful. I hit a few balls with the wedges and S56s and they were pretty nice.. The wedges do look like a sure buy for me. I had hit the i15s and Ansers a few weeks ago in Japan so didn't repeat that which I thought felt and performed pretty similarly at the time.. I had no interest in the K-15 stuff so didn't hit it. Anyone else that has seen the new stuff feel free to add to this thread.. Sorry for no pictures but I hadn't planned on seeing the stuff so didn't have a camera along (but was told later wouldn't have mattered as no pictures were allowed anyway). But pretty much everything has been posted except the S56s. I guess I was surprised a little by the obvious price increases and the costliness of the Ansers.

Also it looks like the K15 iron set is a hybrid type set to compete with the Adams stuff etc.
a buddy owned a golf shop and he said ping always does that..introduce one new model, drop the oldest model.

because as everybody knows, every year the makers finally discover the one new secret that will never be duplicatd again...the ultimate golf club.

Golf club improvement is like the old story of the rabbit who started some distance away from a head of lettuce. With each hop he got halfway there but never quite gets to the lettuce. Golf club improvement seems like that every year a "major" improvement but never quite the perfect club. When Ely Callaway was alive and running the company that was literally the message from the reps. every year. This is the ultimate club and can't be improved on (until next year with the same message)...

I won't play another set of Pings until they stop putting that stupid "W" on the Pitching Wedge. Of course it's a wedge - so is a gap wedge, so is a Sand wedge, so is a lob. But there's no W on those - why not? "It don't make no sense"

e560448.gif

"W" is the chemical symbol for Tungsten. The "W" is to signify irons with Tungsten weighting.

He meant the W on the wedge not the W on the toe that stands for Wolfram that everyone knows is Tungsten.. Maybe they should have put a 74 on the toe to really confuse everyone.

The S56 is stunning but I don't think I'll jump from my S57 to them in a hurry, considering my S57 is just over a year old and still looking damn good.

I think I'll wait for the S55s.

Thanks for the pics everyone, this in interesting, indeed :clapping:

What about all those modern sets that put a "P" on a 9i? A pitching wedge should have 48*-50* of loft, not 43*-45*.

I don't know how you can say that since Ping hasn't released those numbers yet and won't until the sales meeting. At best some of the top retailers got an idea of wholesale prices but those weren't firm yet either. We all know who makes the final decision on prices and he doesn't waste his time posting on forums.
OK, come back in August and see if I'm right or not, so far I've said higher than $1200 and less than $1500, and I'm not guessing.
I think that is a pretty good range. The problem is $1200+ is DOA and $1520 is a fall down laughing number. It is probably a good thing that they won't have any volume here to speak of because at those prices they won't need inventory. It will also serve them well not to send out demo sets, just leave a few pieces with the reps. for fitting van visits.. I can't imagine people other than the most devoted collector paying that money for these after demoing them versus other ping offerings let alone a real forging.

I should have a set next week (friend bringing them from Japan not ordering them on line) and intend to sell them immediately for $1400 (making a small profit). But this guy that is buying them is a ping collector that wanted an early set..
I love PING irons, but I agree with you on the $1200 and up price on the Ansers - I think they are good looking, but I just can't see a lot of sales at those numbers - IMHO, the Adams forged CB2s may be the Anser's competition.

1500+ for a set of forged OFFSET irons? thanks for making me more money on selling AP2s.
I haven't hit the AP2s, but I mentioned to someone the other day they look similar to my Ben Hogan 2001 Forged Edge Irons (and they are great clubs, BTW).

One thing you can bank on...If it is PING it will be done right...
guess you never saw the ping zing irons!!! shaft bent after a few swings cause of poor design!
That was if you were lucky and ordered the steel shafts. If you ordered the graphite shafts you were usually chasing the head down the fairway as it snapped off. Absolutely the worst club ping ever did along with the S series titanium woods from Australia.

$249 dollars so thats about what £189 over here in the UK. That means retailers will put it out at around £149. Sounds like the K15 is going to target those mid-range shoppers the guys buying Benross, Adams, MD etc over here. A good entry level set of clubs for beginners with Ping's reputation and custom fit options. Smart move by Ping. As long as people don't buy that range and leave the G15/i15 on the shelf much like whats happened to the Rapture series because of its high pricing compared to G15/i15. People just won't pay more, regardless of the benefit that might come with it.
That seems like smart marketing though, putting out the G15 and I15 a year early, letting people get hyped on them and buy them, then produce a cheaper, game improvement model later on, to bring in even more customers. Perhaps that was it, or not..just my take..

wasnt all that impressed with the rapture V2, found the V1 to be a better club
I assume you are talking driver. The only thing better about the original Rapture and the V2 was the more muted sound at impact. The V2, compared to the original for me, gives me near ideal launch conditions, lower launch angle and lower spin than the original, same loft, standard Ping shaft, same flex, in both.

Really Ping? PLease, make something new and exciting... And does anyone know why they want to release both an S56 and an Anser forged? it seems like one would do just fine...
The S56s and S Tour Wedges were always intended for the U.S. and world market. The Ansers were designed for the Asian market and they decided to bring them here eventually. While the S56 and S Wedges will be available in September. The Ansers won't be available until late November and even then in very limited numbers (they have been a success in Japan and enough heads don't exist to supply both markets). At the proposed prices for the Ansers they won't need that many for the U.S. market anyway. The S56s and S Wedges are having a great initial run (2 wins) while the people playing the Ansers (other than Nordegren) hardly are making the cuts let alone winning any tournaments.

Three ping reps. I know have told their accounts that (west coast, midwest, south). Two large retailers I work with have been told that by Ping as well. The bigger accounts have already seen the new equipment some weeks ago (even then they were told the Ansers would be in extremely short supply), but at the sales meeting this month the reps. will all get samples sent to them as well as getting wholesale and retail prices. The reps. will get an Anser iron for demo, but they will get complete sets of the S56s and a selection of the new wedges as well as the K15 stuff. Orders can start to be placed by reps. for their accounts on July 28.. The reason for the delay in the Ansers was they can't get enough heads to build sets to supply all their retailers and don't want to get into an allocation problem only supplying some. Waiting until November they will have enough stock to supply all their accounts. Most of the retailers I've talked to don't think they will be a big seller anyway based on the rumored price ($1200-1400). Originally they had intended to have everything out in September but the Ansers are very popular in Japan (why I don't know based on the set I had and sold immediately) supposedly creating a shortage.

I've posted a lot of pictures of the Anser set I had about a month ago. The reps. that had the equipment early (May time frame) for their large accounts were not allowed to have pictures taken of it. On this site are tons of pictures of the S56 and S Tour Wedges. When the reps. get their samples in August everyone can take pictures of the stuff because it will be officially announced. I will have one of the first sets of S56s and S Tour Wedges early in September, but by then they will be old who cares news. I won't play the S56s because I don't like ping irons but will probably play the wedges as those are outstanding (based on a handful of balls)..

Interesting how Lee Westwood is not using much of the current product let alone any new stuff. Everything else is older equipment including the old i10 irons. In the ad about his win they say he won with ping equipment preferring not to mention which equipment.

Lee WestwoodPGA Tour: St. Jude Classic
Driver: Ping G10 (9 degrees; Aldila NV VooDoo shaft)
Fairway Wood: Ping i15 3-wood (15.5 degrees; UST Mamiya Proforce V2 76X shaft); Ping Rapture V2 5-wood (19 degrees; Aldila NV75 shaft)
Irons (3-PW): Ping i10
Wedges: Ping Tour-W (54 and 58 degrees)
Putter: Ping Redwood Anser
Thats because the new stuff look IDENTICAL to the old stuff at address and the overall shape is also the same.

The only thing Ping ever changes is the badge on the back.

Look at the "NEW" K driver. The face shot looks just like the G2, G5, Rapture V2, G10, etc, etc, etc.....

Thats why you see Tour guys still using the G10 and old equipment.
