Relocating to Austin - club recommendation

Clubs in the SW (near Buda) part of Austin

Hi, I'm relocating to Buda, TX (south-west of downtown Austin) and would like some recommendations on a course to play, and possibly join. I am a +1 handicap, and looking to find a course with decent practice facilities, good conditioning and if possible a good lay-out. I don't really want to have to drive for than 30 mins as I will be on the practice tee regularly.......

My wife and I are actually relocating to A-town in August! She's a Longhorn and we both grew up in the Houston area. I was thinking of trying to solicit an outing of WRXers when I get out there to get things going.

You do seem to be sponsored by the Dark Side (T-Made) and I have a lot of tattoos from living in Cali for the last 10 years, but I'm game!

No disrespect, but do you know where Buda is? I wouldn't call ACC southwest austin nor the Hills and I would venture to say that there my be 3 courses within 25 minutes of Buda but would agree that The Hills, ACC, Grey Rock, Barton Creek and Spanish Oaks all have good practice facilities.

If it were me living in Buda I would look at Grey Rock and Onion Creek.

Here is a list of courses that were mentioned above along with a couple that I have added.

ACC is minimum 45 minutes with traffic.

The hills is minimum 50 minutes with traffic.

Spanish oaks 40 minutes with traffic.

Barton Creek 45 minutes with traffic.

Gray rock is 25-30 minutes in traffic, good track with decent short game area and range.

Clay and Kizer are about 25 minutes in traffic, 2 18 hole tracks(both munis) with Clay being a traditional layout and Kizer being more of a links style course. The practice facility is good enough for the local colleges to use and Kizer hosts the State Highschool golf tournament.

Onion Creek about 10 minutes away, private, short and tight, decent practice facility and called home by a few good players(Omar Uresti resides and plays out there) so you'll be able to find a good game. This will be your closest decent facility.

Thanks for the great advice - it is looking like I will probably start off with playing at Grey Rock as a "growing the game" member and then if I like the environment transition to a full membership.
