Courses?

I will be moving to KC, MO mid July to start my med school career! Just wondering if any members have any favorite budget courses around the area since I will be going in debt up to my eyes for the next 4-6 years.

Here's a better idea...skip the whole medical school deal, go into business or law, acquire much less debt and start playing quality courses, with no worries about a budget, a lot sooner.

I wish it was that easy but I think I'll stick with medicine since I already have so much time invested. Plus I have a thing for nurses!

I that case good luck. Honestly, medicine is a great field. The scientific and truly interventional aspects of my job keep me inspired. Frankly, it's my patients that get me down, discourage me and upset me with their general lack of common courtesy and thankfulness. It's amazing how thankless and rude people can be despite being in need of much help. Times are changing. I'll be moving soon from an urban environment to more of a mixed community/pseudo-urban area soon and I hope the change pays off, but I'm not overly optimistic.

Anyhow, um KC golf on a budget? Here's some advice that's actually on topic... Find a course that offers an annual membership and gives students a discount. That's what I did when I was in medical school and it worked out well. Probably saved $ in the long run because there will be times when you won't golf for a month and there will be times when you can golf nearly every day (if you want). Some courses may even be willing to pro-rate your membership for this year given you'll be moving in July/August - especially if they know you're a medical student. If you make a few phone calls, I but you'll find a great deal.

Shoal Creek is awesome. I don't know the summer rates but a great course.

Stone Canyon was nice too, but rates are higher and might be going private

Those were a couple I played in the spring that were really nice courses.

Yeah all most people want nowadays is a cure all for every problem out there. Where did you go to school and thank for the advice I'll have to make some calls.

Hodge Park off of 152 (right by Shoal Creek) is affordable. The Paradise Pointe courses in Smithville aren't bad. Cardinal Hill (the William Jewel home course) in Liberty is affordable.
And if you want to play a cheaper course that is a really awesome course -- head about 35 miles northeast towards Richmond and play Shirkey.

Let's hear some more about Shirkey in Richmond. I'm in a tournament there in a couple of weeks, what can I expect from the course?

Stone Canyon is a really good course. It is a Greg Norman designed course. Shoal Creek is pretty cool too. Then there is a course called Winterstone that is a really good course. It sits above an active mine so it always soundsl like thunder coming from under the ground.

Just got back from my first trip to KC and its going to take some getting use to. I did go by quite a few nice looking courses along the way.

I played at Shirkey in Richmond yesterday. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere... but it's a fantastic course, a real gem. The greens were in great shape, tee boxes were pretty good, and the fairway's were terrific. Played from the golds, the box in front of the tips, in a scramble format tournament. The only thing I didn't like was that it seemed we were always the same distance from fairway to the green. I was playing 5-6 iron all day long, it seemed (our team wasn't very long off the tee). I'm not sure if that was a result of my playing partners, the location of the tees yesterday, or if the par fours all play about the same distance. This course has some great golf holes, one of my favorite par 5's I've ever played with great risk/reward potential and a fantastic long par 3 over water. I think I'll go back and play some time, even though it's a 2 1/4 hour drive to the course from my home.
