TM R9 Forged v TM Burner Forged v Cally Diablo Forged

About as narrow as I can make it - again

Hey Gang,
Now that the TM R9 Forged has been out for a little while, I was hoping that someone may have experience playing or even hitting these who have also hit either the TM Burner Forged, Cally Diablo Forged or both.

Both TM Irons would have to be purchased without a demo so any info is helpful and yes I did a search and I do have some info, just not quite enough. I currently game the 2008 TP Forged which has a little more offset than the 2009 TP Forged or 2010 R9 TP Forged. Got that?

Anywho, what I am looking to find out specifically are comparison reviews and if one is a clear distance leader. I want forged. However my slow swing speed should get me an SGI, but I refuse.

Also, let us know what shaft you're hitting.

As I study the two TMs, the Burner Forged clearly has more weight at heel and toe, but the R9 Forged offers that somewhat pocket cavity that narrows (ssems to) as the loft gets higher until there isn't one.

Man it's July and I still have most of last year's bag.

I'll help if I can.....

I am currently gaming a set of 2009 TM Burner Forged. I have not hit the TM R9 Forged or the Cally Diablo Forged so I can not give you a comparison, but I can give you some of my findings on the Burners.

I have a full set of '09 Burner Forged, 3-PW, with KBS Xtra Stiff shafts. I have not had them that long....about 5 rounds and a handful of range sessions but I can definitely say that I am very impressed with them. I find them forgiving, straight and long which is exactly what I was looking for. I get a nice high trajectory and no balloning into the wind. The long irons are very easy to hit... so much so that I actually decided not to replace the 3 iron with a hybrid.

I came from a 10 year old set of Cleveland TA3 Form Forged and was looking for a club that gave me the forged feel with more forgiveness. These fit the bill perfectly. Hit the Burners on the sweet spot and the feel is better than the TA3's I used to play. You can feel mis-hits, but the penalty is not as severe...just a slight loss of distance.

I would defintely recommend the Burner Forged. Great set of irons. They look fantastic too. The satin finsh and the understated looks have definitely peaked the interest of my friends.

Thanks for the reply. Trying to determine what irons to go with without being able to demo is tough. I purchased my TM TP Forged '08s that way. I like them but as a short hitter always looking for a little more distance. However, I'm not willing to give up the forged feel or a reasonable top line width.

I hear you....

I also purchased the Burner Forged irons without hitting them first. I took a risk that worked out for me and I couldn't be happier now, but I was a little hesitant buying them without a proper demo.

The few reviews I found online, that it was a full set with the 3 and 4 irons, that it was customized to my preferred specs (KBS xtra stiff, 2 degrees upright, 1/2" over) and that I got a great deal on them helped my decision to purchase them without hitting them first.

As for distance, I have always been a little longer hitter (9 iron = 150 yds) and I have found that I lost no distance, and in some cases (hit it flush on the sweet spot) had a slight increase in comparison to my previous set.

The offset is slightly more prominent than my old set (more forgiving) and the top line is not the thinnest out there (about comparable to the AP2's), but the overall look and set up of this set gives me confidence that can only help my game.

All in all, I got lucky. If I could have demoed each set properly before purchase, I would have.
