Took a former NCAA Champion to 15 holes yesterday

Then got stomped...

We have an employee match play tourney every month at my course. I won my first two 9 hole matches 4&2 and 5&3, so I had the pleasure of playing our head pro (he won an NCAA championship about 6 years back) in an 18 hole match. Keep in mind I have only been playing golf for 2 1/2 years. I stuck my approach on #1 to 4ft, he was about 4ft off the green and 18ft from the cup. Sinks his putt for birdie. I lip out my putt. 1dn. Same situation on 4, Im one down with an 8foot birdie putt to even the match and I burn the lip. Long story short it comes down to 15th hole and Im down 4 with 4 to play. Perfect drive, and them my 140 aproach ends up in the bunker. My bunker game is solid, but this short sided bunker shot was straight downhill to the water, i stick it pin high only to watch it release 12 ft past the hole and trickle even farther down. My boss has a 25ft putt with about 6ft of left to right break, and drains it. :russian_roulette: For a player of my level it was a solid outting, given that I had 2 shanks that went OB on partial swing shots I just didnt commit to, and cost me 2 holes. Then missed 3 birdie putts on the front 9 that were inside 10ft I would say I showed up to play.

Anyway, as a 2 hcp it was some of the first competetive golf I have played, just thought I would share.

Congrats! I take it he wasn't D1, as you would have been playing roughly either Ryan Moore or James Lepp lol

No he won at Ohio Wesleyan. Which is D2 if im not mistaken. Or if you like the story better. Ryan Moore dropped off the tour to become a head pro and play me heads up in match play events year round. Ahhhh. the life..
