Purest persimmon I've ever hit

Here is my Persimmon gamer, although I don't really play this one very much. I've only brought it out once this year on an old Ross course and hit it really well. It's 44.5 inches long and has a Swing Weight of about D5.5. Its an awesome block. I know this is probably a redundant post, but wanted to re post this since I've seen all these great threads lately. I don't think I'd ever alter this one bit since its in mint shape and the finish really shows the club and grain really well. Its quite different than any other Texan I've seen, the head profile from front to back is also a little longer, it sets up really nice and is a real bomber. Dave Wood made this in the mid 1980s for Ben Crenshaw so he would have a back up to his M85W. It was modeled after his M85.

Wow, what a beautiful club!

I don´t know, but somehow I doubt that people 20 years from now will be admiring the beauty of a 2010 titanium bomber. There is something about wood and the hands that shape it that just cant be reproduced in metal and industry.

The 85 shape and the insert is such a nice design. I have a cleveland with somewhat similar lines.

That is a very nice driver. I would love to try it myself. Someday I will have to get a Texan for my own collection. Thanks for the posts of your Wood Brothers persimmon collection Fred. Maybe you can post a picture (or pictures) of your entire Wood Brothers collection together as an inspiration for all of us.

I've played a few rounds using my buddies Persimmon 1-3-5 woods with steels shafts, and old 50's style butter knives. I was amazed at how low and boring the trajectory was, and even though fairways were not all that fast, I still got run out. Really a fun experience.

I used that driver for years, Mine had the G. LOOMIS graphite shaft
in it. What shaft is in yours? I had traded mine in, but I still keep an
old Palmer Peerless persimmons around .

Here is my favorite club in my collection. I've been looking for one over 16 years. Got this one a few months back. I have about 300 wood drivers I love to show this forum all of them.

That is an outstanding Texan, [b]Troon pro[/b]. I have learned from our resident Wood Brothers expert that the [b]=W.B=[/b] stamping on the back of the driver is not a common occurrence. I would love a driver like this one someday in my collection.

To echo what John said, show us some of your other persimmons in your stash! We would love to see them.

Thats a great looking Texan. One of the nicer ones I've seen. I have a 10 degree with Similar signature stamps, its got an original graphite shaft. I really like this one.

Also posted 2 pics of a Texan that bears Dave Wood's signature. This was his tour demo in 1987 that Langer took from him and used for a couple of years. Love them Texans.

I agree with the MacGregors. I also prefer these woods to all others. However, the Wood Brothers woods are very very close to the classic Macs. I trust these are in the same class as the classic Macs. I have read about the process that David Wood created to soak the wood heads and about the quality that were put into each wood. I hope to have a nice Wood Brother driver, and maybe 3 wood, in my collection in the future.

The funny thing about hitting persimmon is if you haven't hit one is years, there is quite an adjustment you need to make. In May this year I was up at my local muni and was practicing with a good friend of mine who is a legit 1 handicap. He just turned 50 and this past summer won his Club Championship. I has hitting the driver that says "Dave Wood" on the skirt (pic above). This particular night I was really loose and pumped up and was hitting some nice ones. I handed it to my buddy who said he hadn't swung one in 20 years, after 4 or 5 shots, he only got maybe 2 airborne. WE got a laugh over it. LOL. Granted with the right shaft, he would probably whip me pretty bad.

I was hitting persimmon all winter (indoor golf - anyway) and they felt good. First time at the range outdoors and it was a "how to hit a snap hook" clinic. First round on the course and they were straight as an arrow. Personally I think it's because the wood was alive once and you to exorcise some demons every time out, or hit them more often. PS.wish I had a Wood Brothers' driver even it it's just for the sole plate.
