Would have been better if he had a black turtle neck and new balance shoes.

For those of you that haven't seen the Burner 2.0 launch video, the CEO has some pretty strong things to say about both their new Burner irons, and the rest of the equipment released for 2011. Apparently "You will consider our new products." Or something like that.

They must have a typo! No way a 6 iron is 1.625" longer than a 7 iron and even .4" longer than the 5 iron!?!

I'm thinking the same thing, must be 37.625", which is still very long. I guess the 2009 Burners are already obsolete! Is this their first iron set with different shaft charatersistics for each club?
I'm guessing that only pertains to their graphite shafts. I wager you lose that "technology" when you ask for X100, KBS, PX, Aldila MLTI, etc...

I always thought that if you hit your 7 iron X amount of yards and you need to hit a shot 10 to 15 yards farther, you hit your 6 iron instead of your 7 iron, not purchase a new set of clubs so you can hit your 7 iron 10 to 15 yards farther.
There is a limit to the distance you want each club to hit the ball.

Over exaggerating for another way to prove my point: If your new technology 9 iron hits the ball 200 yards, 8 iron hits the ball 225 yards, 7 iron hits the ball 250 yards, your 6 iron 275 yards, 5 iron 300 yards etc...
You will be forced to finesse one of your wedges or 9 iron for almost all your shots inside 200 yards.
I don't know about you, but the only time I have shots over 200 yards are off the tee on par 4's and 5's and an occasional 200+ yard par 3 and occasionally off the fairway on the par 5's if I am not laying up.
Other than off the tee, I probably only hit one or two shots over 200 yards per round. If each new technology club flies too long you will only need to hit some of those clubs once every few rounds.
I already play rounds where I might not even get a chance to hit 2 or 3 of my clubs. I don't need or want to play a round where I don't get a chance to hit 7 or 8 of my clubs.
I can often play 3, 4 or more rounds in a row and not need to hit my only fairway wood.

Another way to put it: If a new technology 9 iron flies as far as your current 7 iron, a new technology 8 iron flies as far as your current 5 iron, a new technology 7 iron flies as far as your current 3 iron etc...
Why wouldn't you just use your current clubs which have smaller more precise distance increments between clubs and have less chance of having to execute a shot in between clubs.

Anyway, I don't want or need my irons to fly 10 to 15 yards farther each.
I wouldn't mind if they were 10 to 15 yards more accurate each.

I think manufacturing a new set of irons that are 15 yards longer than your average irons is targeted to players that hit an 8 iron in 100 yard range and a 5 iron in the 130 yard range or so.
Those players might feel the need to hit a 5 iron 15 yards farther. If you are a player that hits your 5 iron maybe 160 yards or more, your not going to need a 5 iron that hits it 15 yards farther.
You will just hit your 4 iron.

At the start he comes on saying "there we go! that's better!"

That seems to me to imply he already came on - didn't get enough applause - and then said "OK I'm gonna come on again and I want you to go nuts like I'm some kind of rock star"

Ironically his namesake Mark King of Level 42 IS quite the rock star

150 yard par 3

"what did you hit there Bob?"
"Oh just a three quarter pitching wedge"
"Wow - you're a really good golfer, Bob"

I think this is how they imagine golfers speak to each other

Pretty ridiculous the hype they made over this announcement. I still can't get over the unstoppable distance claim. Now it is the unstoppable 8. :cheesy: And with the claims of the even better stuff coming down the pipe, why would anyone buy clubs over th next 12 months? I'm sure it is inferior technology.

You guys are missing the point though. This is for people who hit their 300 iron 190 yards, if they are lucky, and incrementally less per club.

I understand being annoyed because the lofts are strengthened to hell and it makes playing realistic distances for good golfers hard, but these clubs aren't necessarily designed for the good golfer.

3W - 07 Burner TP TS/Mitsubishi Diamana Blueboard 73g

2h - Razr Tour/Aldila NV Hybrid 85

5-7 - P790/KBS C-Taper 120

50* - Nike Engage

My sentiments exactly! Jacking up the lofts and calling a 5 iron loft a 6 iron and so on so forth. It also doesn't make any sense to have 3* of loft increments in the long irons and 5* of loft increments in the short irons. The type of players these attract need help with distance control in the short irons so the 5* of loft increments make no sense to me.

My question is, how do these irons benefit anyone?

I was thinking the same thing. I thought this was supposed to be live? I'm sure the audience was just loaded with Taylormade employees and instructed when to applaud.

As others have pointed out, I think Mr King is trying to be Mr Jobs. I love TM products, but it is getting a little ridiculous the amount of stuff they put out there.
