Mizuno mp 63 or titleist cb 710???

Recommended Posts

at first I thought i didn't like the look of the 710 cbs. i also liked the look of the 63s, but i'm not sure if i like that curved grind near the toe of the sole. i thought their "360 grind" would be like the ones on the r9 tps, but they also curve. so i don't know if i like that look.

so please help me decide.

which is more forgiving?

which looks better (back and address)

I can't speak for the Titleist irons, but are those two really that comparable? Wouldn't you want to compare the MP-68s with the 710s?

710 is the line of irons. how do you compare an iron set with a set of 4 different iron sets??

Are you trying to achieve any particular goals with newer clubs? What are you playing now?

I hit both this weekend (among a bunch of others) and for me the slight nod went to the MP-63s. Both had DG S300. Both look great at address and had similar ball flight (no launch monitor so no specific #s yet). For me I felt they were similar in terms of forgiveness and workability. The main difference was the feel--the mizunos felt a bit softer/smoother on contact, the titleist had a more sharp feel on contact and I wonder if that's what folks mean when they say titleist's are "clicky". Interestingly, the other club that made the top 3 for me was the Ping S56-nice feel on contact and a little more forgiving. You can't go wrong with either set for sure, but the nod for me went to the mp63s. I'll go back and hit them again another day and see what stands the test of time :). Hopefully that helps and isn't much of a thread-jack.

I own the Mp-63 and tested the Titleist indoors on a launch monitor.

I found the Mizunos a bit more tolerant against misshits.
I prefer the feel of the Mizunos over the Titleists.
Both look great at address.
The Titleists look better in the bag.

What does that mean? "titleist look better in the bag"

I find the 63s to have that butter soft feeling on flushed hits while the 710s have a satisfying click that some prefer. They both launched about the same for me, distances were the same too as the 63s were bent 1.5* weak to play at a PW of 47.5* not 46*. I just prefer the way the 63s feel and stop me from digging as I tend to be a D/D.
Both look fine to me from address, more of a matter of taste as the 710s topline is a bit thicker.

How they look from the back would be a matter of opinion. And really who cares? I love how my MP-63s are playing and I really would not care if they had a pink sticker of a Unicorn jumping through a rainbow on the back . . . cause I'd still be a better ballstriker than anyone who cared to comment on it. I care more about seeing quarter sized brown dots dead center on the face than I do about the back of my irons.

Haiku as a sig?
They may be overrated
But I'm rocking one!

I´d go with the Mizuno MP-62, they look better than the 63´s and feel outstanding. Maybe you can get a good deal on them as well.

Disagree completely. The grind on the 63s is very noticeable to me. It also probably has an effect on the top line appearing thinner.

if you dont hit the ball in the sweet spot 95% of the time i wouldnt bother with any of these clubs. you are just gonna hurt your game. if you want pretty clubs that dont help your game then drop a grand on any of the clubs you have mentioned.

i play off of 8 and recently purchased a set of AP2's. i love them. even when i hit them a little thin, or come out of a shot a bit they get up in the air and go where i expect. the difference between Titliest CB and MB really isnt much. same with 63's 68's and 58's. have a look at AP1's, mx300's maybe 53's and plenty of others...

if i were you i would grab 10 balls, a tape covered 8 iron and see how many balls you hit in the sweet spot. if you dont hit 9 of them flush on the range then move on.
there a plenty of amazing forged or cast irons that look great at address and are forgiving that will help you rather than kick your a**.

Not really sure what gave you the impression that I needs helping irons.

just that you have created about 5 posts asking about forgiveness of certain clubs. as i mentioned earlier the difference in forgiveness in any of these clubs is minimal, the launch angle etc is more what is changed...

Im not trying to be rude, just trying to give you some advice considering i went thru the same thing...
