Good man.

I forgot about the your/you're and there/their/they're issue. Very galling. Albeit not as jangling on the nerves (or, at least my nerves) as misused apostrophes that are so glaringly out of place that they have you shaking your head in disbelief. Not everyone's got a degree in English, I know, but when [s]your[/s] you're reading a thread where someone is asking 'I'm thinking of picking up some new club's. How many of you guy's are gaming Mizuno's? What do you think of there iron's?' it's pitiful really. And particularly so when someone replies that they are, and goes on to describe them as 'like buttah.'

Also irksome is someone mentioning a new club they've seen and someone chiming in with 'No picks?' Er, no. Sorry. If you're looking to dig a hole in some tarmac I can't help, I'm afraid.

'Prototype' and 'proto' are other overused golf-related nouns that also get on my wick. It's not the words themselves. It's simply that half of the supposed protos (proto's?) aren't anything of the sort; just new clubs that the writer hasn't seen before. Crack on and get the all-important buzzword in though. It makes it all sound a bit 'tour.' What's especially annoying for me, a man who detests a needless or spurious 'proto' monicker, is the fact that I'm currently using - sorry, gaming - a lob wedge with the damn word stamped on the toe end of the bloody thing. Thinking about it, I should of got something else. I wish I would have went for a bog standard Vokey instead.

Oh, I nearly forgot: Fit. And fitted.

If you tell me that you're getting fit for some new irons, I assume that you're going to be out jogging and hitting the weight room at the local gym prior to picking the things up.

What irritates me is in the for sale section someone prefaces their clubs condition by saying "I'm a scratch golfer" Who cares, are they saying that an 8 handicap takes less care of their clubs? I wonder if these "scratch golfers" could break 80! Probably not, if you have to broadcast your handicap in the for sale section.

In the heat of the moment, we sometimes forget to think rationally.

"I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father"

-Greg Norman

"I don't think anywhere is there a symbiotic relationship between caddie and player like there is in golf."

-Johnny Miller, TV analyst and pro golfer.

"Then I was skinnier. I hit it better, I putted better, and I could see better. Other than that, everything is the same."

-PGA Senior Tour player Homero Blancas.

"(We) should be allowed to wear shorts. God almighty, (LPGA) women are allowed to wear 'em, and we've got better legs than they do."

-Greg Norman

"His nerves. His memory. And I can't remember the third thing."

-Lee Trevino on the three things that go as a golfer ages.

Of course mizuno feels like butta.......biggrin.gif

Great thread......in fairness to the word 'gamer" I have heard baseball analysts speak of a player having one ball glove as his gamer, and a backup he is breaking in. This is very typical in the sport, being that it takes considerable time to break in a new leather glove and gain confidence in it. For those of you from Europe who probably don't know much about the sport I am sure what I am saying might be somewhat foreign.

That being said the term gamer has become very overused on internet forums such as this, and frankly I have never heard anyone use it on the golf course, at least with the group I play with which tend to be over 35 years old.

Another over used term is "cannon" as in "I picked up a new 7.5 degree Callaway Octane with a XX Whiteboard and it is a cannon!! it is totally sick! I'll be gameing this baby for at least two weeks!! Anyone tried the new Titty driver I heard it is da bomb?"

As it was alluded to earlier, the comparing of forged irons to butter is very odd to me. Don't they know that butter is cast?

Very nice, Opus.

While it's true that you can forge butter too, it's very hard to get your logo clearly defined.

Don't get me started on extraneous apostrophes, people who type 'should of' and 'could of' or those people who think per se is one word; 'persay.'

Not golf-specific errors, I grant you, but irritating nonetheless. How can you look at a post that contains the words 'I wish I would have went' or 'should of' and not immediately twig that it looks a bugger?

How can I worry about extraneous apostrophes when I'm still parsing the phrase "immediately twig that it looks a bugger"?

Let's not forget the erroneous spelling of "loose" for "lose":

"When I game a little knuckle-fade, I loose the ball way right."

:russian_roulette:
This thread has created some great laughs. Although that use of the word "way" always seems funny. I am not sure if it is ever appropriate to use "way" as an adverb. For example, "Dude, that was way killer!" My favorite phrase goes something like this: "I crushed that drive, I mean I literally killed it." Really? You must have some fancy golf balls if you can actually murder them. My golf balls always seem to start out so lifeless.

Lastly, I have come to realize that I must be missing some sound functionality on my computer because I haven't found a need to utilize the "mute" point.

Another one which always raises a smile is 'to all intensive purposes.' You'd think that those purposes would already be purposeful enough; without having to get all intense about their purposefulness.

One I heard the other day, whilst a chap was describing his custom-built driver, was 'it's pretty unique.'

If you can't make any sense of it maybe you can make some change instead.

OK I'm off my high horse now I just realized that I need to start using better punctuation.
