Shirts on the course. Tucked or Un-tucked?

always un-tucked. its GOLF its not a freaking runway, who gives a hoot, just because somebody doesnt tuck there shirt in doesnt mean there a slob or a hack, and the ones commenting in this saying that sound like the guy who thinks there better than everybody. Nobody is going to tell me how to dress when i play.

That depends on where you play.

Are you also going to turn down an invite to Cypress Point because their dress code requires a tucked in shirt?

Tucked. Period. Ive only played untucked once, because i was wearing jeans... it makes you look more like a serious golfer, and more professional

Tucked if it's a normal shirt. Untucked if the shirt was specifically made to be worn that way. But unless you're rolling with a midsection like Villegas, probably best to stay tucked IMO. I just find it helps me get in a serious fun frame of mind.

EDIT: Devil's advocate tells me the best argument against tucked: David Leadbetter. Scary, aggressive uptuck.

Normally tucked in when I get to the golf course, then after the first swing, it's untucked, because why tuck it back in if it's going to keep coming out everytime I swing?

Personally I'm tucked at all times. I was just brought up that way. I think looking neat and polished shows respect for the course/club, your partners/opponents, and the game itself. Plus, my weight is 190lbs with a 30 inch waist ... an untucked shirt looks like a tent on me.

When I worked at a course in Wisconsin, we were happy when guys didn't take off their shirts.

Having said that, untucked doesn't bother me in the least.

I am always well groomed in public. It's a matter of respect to oneself and others.

But when I go to the CC to play a round, I just don't give a lick what I look like, I just want to feel comfortable. I go[b] untucked[/b] in Walmart cotton shorts (beltless) and whatever stay dry shirts my wife buys me. And I don't even match sometimes.

But I do need those spandex undershorts to keep the junk in place, boxers tend to get all bunched up.

I never knew this was such a hot topic. I usually start the round tucked and will tuck it back in if I feel that the shirt has become untucked. Sometimes I just don't notice and by the end of the round I'm untucked. As someone else stated, what is an acceptably tucked in shirt? Do you keep it tightly tucked in or is pulling a little of the shirt up so that it's a little jumbled but still tucked acceptable?

Untucked is not allowed at most South African courses.....maybe the small rural town and holiday resort courses will overlook it.

But the general official dress code does not allow it. (I was actually surprised to see the thread discussing it as an option)

Plus Cargo pants, not allowed...jeans not allowed....Athletic or rugby / football shorts, not allowed.......long shorts, ie on or below the knee, not allowed

All pants, long or short must have a belt.....no draw string pants either.

I love golfing in the fall where I don't have to tuck in my pullover. Just feels more natural.

I'll tuck in my shirt 95% of the time though, can't hide that beautiful belt buckle.

always untucked, much more comfortable and free. i buy shirts where they are not longer in the back so it doesnt look sloppy. Plus i am 6'5" and finding shirts long enough to stay tucked in during a round of golf or anything else is hard sometimes. I think its a generation thing also, my dad tucks his t-shirts in for crying out loud, people in their 20's much more unlikely to tuck shirts in because the trends are that way.

depends on the course. Nice private club, tucked. Low end beer drinking public course, could go untucked and not care.

On a side note here in Michigan and Im sure other places in the country have been hit hard by the economy I have noticed that at least here in MI golf courses have laxed on golf attire dress codes. I was playing a pretty high end course yesterday in MI rated top 25 in the state and used to be a pretty exspensive place to play but now has come down on rates. Long story short wife and I caught a 3 some on the 5th hole and one of the players was wearing a white t shirt tucked into jeans with a massive beer gut sticking out, and wearing a orange/green mossy oak camo hunting hat. Was the worst dressed golfer I have ever seen and my wife and I had a good chuckle over it.
