Interesting, I wonder why? But, definitely a Ping iron.

My guess is the tech in the club. Lets be honest the benenfits of new tech doesn't even exist at Scratch (at this point). They are probably 10 years behind. Now if your talking about blades that's another story.

Next thing you know he's going to be wearing some FJ Icons. Good to see he put the Adams driver back in play. Money talks, b s runs a marathon.

Interesting reply coming from a Scratch rep, care to elaborate on the money talks, bs runs a marathon part of your post.
I don't think "King Kobra" is a Scratch Rep.

Has it been about one year since he signed with Scratch? Wondering if he had a one year contract that's now up.

Could be using Ping because:

A. Switching to something else between contracts might strengthen his contract negotiation with Scratch/whoever.

B. Ping may have signed him to a more lucrative contract, still wears the Scratch hat since he probably received an ownership percentage as part of his contract and wants to promo the company via headgear while still pocketing Ping's big money for playing their clubs. Most TV viewers assume the hat matches the clubs.

C. Ping just works better for him and he wants to win more than he wants to promote Scratch.

D. He actually IS playing Scratch, they hired Scotty Cameron's design guru who mastered the knock-off of Anser putters to create a S-56 knock-off that's milled instead of cast.

Ryan likes to tinker and it is not in his contract that he has to play our irons. Ryan is still under contract with scratch golf.
I'm sure he is still under contract if he has a shareholder stake in the company, but last I checked Steve Jobs isn't walking around with a Zune.

Kidding aside, this just looks like he's maintaining a clothes/wedge relationship with Scratch and his bag is TBD for each tournament.

Some tour players have fickle moments, regularly trying this or that. It doesn't mean they are unhappy with their current clubs.

Not as though Scratch doesn't have access to making clubs of the type and you could certainly debate the legitimacy/value of the technologies but compared to a blade, the PIngs have:

Multimaterial Heads, Tungsten Toe Weighting
Polymer Custom Tuning Port (I have no idea what that's really supposed to do, but is is tech)
Cavity back
More extreme perimeter weighting
Probably a ton more time in computer materials analysis.
Probably a lot more PGA player feedback.

There is a lot more tech in the Ping clubs...again, I don't know that it really makes them any better.

I would rather own a handmade, 50's vintage Porsche than a brand new new BMW M3, but if you asked me which one would win a race, I'd be betting on the Beemer.

Interesting statement - one that I don't agree with. Although Pings best S56 head is appealing to the eye, it's nothing special for game enhancement. Making contemporary MB's or CB's is no longer rocket science for any OEM, thanks to CAD, and improved offshore manufacturing facilities. Ten years??? be more specific...

Apples and oranges - vintage bathtub P-car is worth maybe 2 or 3 M3's.... however the M3 is beyond a 50's P-car when it comes to technology.

This really is a non-issue, the guy changes clubs every single tournament. This is the same guy that's used about 10 different Scratch sets this season for different tournaments. Same guy that's used probably 50 different putters including the purchase of a $59 Tiger Shark before the Masters. Woods are another story as well.

I'm with Dizz. Guy could have career ending injury tomorrow. He is trying to do the best he can, and I would too! Not an issue and I'm sure poking Scratch about it is useless.

I dont profess to know what type of equipment junkie RM is, but isnt playing another manufacturer's clubs far different than playing numerous sets from the very company he has a vested interest in? Just wondering...

Well said. The only thing saving him from himself is the inability to change mid-round. I like the fact that he tinkers. Makes me feel normal - and I have a Tiger Shark in the garage, too.

Ari do you have a comment? I know you watch the boards and would be interested in your opinion. It doesn't look good at all but maybe he just needed something to get him going from a ball strikeing perspective. I think what he did with Scratch is a great story and hopefully he'll be back to using their irons soon.
