Ryan Moore with Ping irons (merged)

Recommended Posts

I'm not quite sure how any of this looks bad on Ryan. Apparently he's breaking no contractual obligations... we've heard that from the owner himself. I'm guessing the "professional" in Ryan is driving his desire to win and for whatever reason, he's making changes to put himself in a position to do so.

There's also no reason that Ryan would have to play ANYTHING other than wedges that have "Scratch" on them, whether he's an "owner" in the company or not. I'm sure Scratch would love to have a complete bag in play, but hey, they're getting more attention from his hat than they ever will from a wedge in his bag simply because Ryan makes it into pictures more often than not because of his mode of dress. Lucky for Scratch that Ryan loves his Scratch headwear.

I hope RM wins so all the golf websites will post the WITB :)

Oooh, that would be brutal.

Despite his ownership position at Scratch Golf, Moore returned to the irons that he used for his last win – Ping. While he still bags Scratch wedges, Moore said ...."

You're right, an owner (can't overuse that word enough) using another company's clubs. Just like I'm sure Bill Gates goes home and uploads songs from iTunes onto his iPad.

Question for everyone out there. What would serve Scratch golf better?

1) Ryan Moore use Scratch irons and wedges and finish in 15th or 20th place...move up to 37th in the world and get another $75,000 check?
or
2) Ryan use ping irons and Scratch wedges and finish 1st....move up to 20th in the world and get a $1.5+ million dollar check?

I'd have to say the publicity on Golfwrx would be/is bad for Scratch. On a whole for the golf community that may not have heard of Scratch before; When his WITB gets posted on Golf Digest and other publications and shows the scratch bag, hat, wedges, True Linkswear golf, His clothing line, etc., that will be HUGE publicity for Scratch and RM. So while everyone here might thing RM went against his better judgment being a part owner of a company...if he wins and Scratch and RM gets more publicity.

I'd have to say that is a win/win for RM and Scratch.

Let's face it RM is not exactly the most personable of guys. I believe he did not make many friends and PING, and I suspect the same has happened at Scratch. Who knows, maybe it will be a mutual parting of ways, and Scratch will be happier. Then they can focus on David Duval...who unfortunately has a similar personality to RM.... and the whole cycle will start again,

Just my .02 cents.

I keep coming back to this though.

Remember when RM went to Scratch. He was the anti-traditional guy not taking the easy big bucks of the likes of Taylor Made and the other oems. The whole argument was that he was playing Scratch because he thought that was what would help him win.

He becomes a part owner and to all intents and purposes becomes the face of Scratch Golf. And with probably unlimited resources and the best grinder in the business to call on he then goes and plays a set of Pings for this tournament.

As a player identified so closely with the brand it strikes me as terrible PR not to play the product. And for people who remember Faldo's time at Adams look how that turned out.

There could be a logical explanation for this but I can't fathom it.

Having an small heavily diluted interest (playing contract) with a large fortune 500 company and having an ownership stake in a small brand that is growing are two completely different things.

Maybe, but from the standpoint that RM has been very open about not being told through contracts what he can and cannot play....the man is trying to be the best he can. If it clicks, or he tried in comparison to his house brand and liked the results, then that is all it is. There would NOT be cause for speculation that he is going to ruin scratch golf. I think they were doing quite well before RM showed up.

I'm pulling for Barnes anyway! :partytime2:

I find this whole thread fascinating. Curios, what previous dealings with Scratch have ended badly?

In any case outside the various forums, and other golf junkie outlets, I doubt anyone really cares if RM is playing non Scratch products. Doesn't pass the smell test though. Neither does managements nonchalant response.

Not to say this is the case, but many people use Ping grips on all their clubs because they like them.

LOL!! This is just getting ridiculous. The one guy said he was going to buy a 2011 TD DW irons but now will not because someone RM is not currently playing them. Seriously??? You should play what you wan because you want to not because someone is, or is not playing them. Its just kinda funny.

I dont know I just dont see the big deal, NO ONE outside of WRX will ever know what he is playing, or not playing.

I bet next time he plays he has one of his 10 sets of Scratch irons in the bag and then this whole crisis would be forgotten. But it has been pretty funny reading how some people totally over react on such a small situation.
interesting...... I wonder what you comment would be if next event TW showed up with TM or Callaway irons in the bag..... small situation???? I think not

Your actually comparing Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as having the same influence on Golf and what people play , You need to re think that response! seriously it would be a big deal when it's Tiger Woods...lol

Oh no you read but did not comprehend what or why I used TW...... again, before you reply to someone about what they wrote, perhaps you should read and understand the context of the post...... anyway, this thread aint about TW, in case you don't understand that.....

just to help you out.... if you actually go back and read the post you first quoted me on and made your post.... I said to the person I was responding too..... that I didn't think he would say a contracted golfer tied to a company....IE TW using callaway or TM would be a small deal..... to the contrary, I was implying that he would be all over it and think it was a big deal.....
