Anyone heard about a new Srixon Z Star ball coming out soon. I just saw TGW running a sale on the current model, this usually means a new version is coming out.

I loved the color of the ball, however the performance of the ball was not what I wanted in a ball. If there is a new ball I certainly hope it performs as well as the PENTA

It will be the Srixon ZStar XV, which is more distance focused than the other two (Ryo used it to shoot his 58). Compression-wise, it will sit inbetween the ZStar and ZStar X. You can look up more info on Japanese equipment sites.

Seriously? The Penta is horrible! Clicky, probalby the worst durability of all the top line balls, inconsistant spin with the wedge. The Srixon Z-Star is a star performer in my book. I have switched between the ProV1x and the Z-StarX all year. I'd prefer the Z-Star but I keep finding liek new ProV1's every round so I havent' bought new balls in over a year.

The Z-StarX, and especially the yellow version, has IMO the best durability of all the top line golf balls. On a full wedge shot the ball doesn't scuff. Instead there are tiny little threads of cover peeled back that you can easily remove with your fingers and the ball feels smooth after. ProV1's, Tour Iz's, Platinums, Penta's all scuff and fill with dirt and look horrible. The distance is better with the Z-Star and it is very consistant! The spin is a tad less than the ProV1 but it is also very consistant. In wet conditions or on receptive greens I prefer the lower spinning Z-Star.

I bought a sleeve of Penta's and used one, gave the other two away. I have found others since and tried to play it for a few holes and just hate it. Feel is worst, distance is ok, and spin is awful.

I honestly could not disagree more about the Penta. This might be the best ball I have ever used. When it first came out, the Callaway HX Tour 56 was a remarkable ball that has since been surpassed, but I put the Penta on par with it when compared to this generation of golf balls. I spin the dog out of it, it has unbelievable distance, and it lasts much much longer than my Tour i(s). Never been a Pro V1 guy because of the lack of durability.

Srixon is coming around, and I believe that within 3 years, they will be a force on tour. The Z Star is very good. I'm hoping the new one is even better...

Hopefully a new Srixon ball (balls) will continue to build upon, what I believe, are 2 outstanding golf balls. First series of Srixon balls (Z-Star X) that I have ever used as a gamer ('09 and 1st part of '10), because I never thought the previous series of balls they produced were very good in comparisons to other balls on the market. I now consider them right up there with anyone else, and even better than some.

However, after playing Penta a majority of '10, there is no way I can say any of the Srixon's are more durable. If I show you 15-20 of each the Penta and the Z-Star X that I played a round with, you will see that just about every Penta looks better. I see them all the time as I practice putting in the basement. Now for me, that really isn't a big deal, I don't care all that much about durability, it is nice to have, but not a determining factor for me, just wanted to throw in my .02 there.

Moral of the story, Srixon, GREAT balls, Penta, GREAT ball, as are many others.

So to Srixon, congrats on an amazing lineup of balls, looking forward to see what is coming next........

The retail one that is already been out for a while in Japan is the Z Star XV which is supposed to the retail version of the Z Star Diamond (Tour-only ball, comes in a white box), however I've got to tell you the feel of the ball is AWFUL. IMO. Great distance, low spin which the driver and decent spin with the short ones but the ball itself feels pretty bad. The cover to me feels like its made out of white plastic, which doesn't feel either hard or soft. It's no doubt that they produce the retail one's with a cheaper urethane material. :black eye:

On the other hand the Z Star Diamond is one of the best balls I've probably played. unlike the XV it has a great feel in any kind of circumstance. It is a relatively hard ball but still has feel to it. Never really seen this ball balloon but it launches high, yet still spins very well around the green. I measured some drivers outside with a scope and a launch monitor, and was averaging about 9yards longer carry than the V1x. V1x marked 291y longest and 309y with the Srixon. These balls always came in a white box and I'm guessing that still most players on the Jap tour is still playing the proto Diamond and not the retail one.

Though to me, the Nike ONE TOUR D is the best ball for me at the moment

Here are some pics of the proto ball

I am a recent Srixon convert. I've played Callaway's premium balls for years now. The Srixon Z-Star gives me everything distance and spin wise as the Callaway but feels much better off of the putter and around the greens. Rep told me that the new version of the Z-Star will be called the xv.

In 2009 I was a Callaway Tour ix player. That was a great golf ball for me. Callaway lost me with the Tour i(z) and Tour i(s). I couldn't stand them. I tried every premium ball there was in the Spring of this year (2010), and the Srixon Z-Star-X beat the heck out of everything else I tried. The B330 and ProV1x are playable for me, but only if I couldn't play the Z-Star-X.

I am just HOPING that they don't make a significant enough change in the XV that in the Spring of 2011 I have to go back to trying every premium ball there is to find one I can stick with. (Fingers crossed.)

Me too. At first it was the color, but I noticed an increase in spin on approach shots and around the greens. Haven't played Pro V1X since. The Z-Star X is very durable. Lasts multiple rounds for me and the vibrant color is easy to spot and fun to play with. Couldn't be happier with this ball and a bit cheaper than the Pro V's.

Great post and you nailed all the reasons that I don't like the Penta. Played the Penta today on the front and the Z-Star on the back and still LOVE the Z-Star Tour Yellow. Great in every way!!!

Blow i have outlined a few facts...not my opinion or rumors. But im just someone will want to argue...anyway

To clear up the talk about the XV vs the Diamond. The XV uses the technology that is in the Diamond, so they are similar but not the same ball at all. The XV is a 4 piece ball, the diamond is a 3 piece ball, making the XV lower spin off the driver and it sill also have more greenside spin than the diamond.

Also, I am not sure where the Ishikawa using the Z-Star Diamond rumors started...but Ishikawa shot 58 with the Z-Star XV, below is the official press release.

The Z-Star XV has been available for sale in Japan since this spring, and has been the #1 selling golf ball in Japan since its release.

The New Z-Star and Z-Star XV will be available in North America 3/1/2011 in Pure White and Tour Yellow.

ISHIKAWA SHOOTS RECORD 58 WITH SRIXON® Z-STAR™ BALL TO WIN JAPAN TOUR TITLE

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – May 6, 2010 – Srixon® Sports, a world leader in golf club and golf ball technology, congratulates Ryo Ishikawa, who shot a 12-under 58 –the lowest score ever on a major tour – to win The Crowns on Sunday for his seventh Japan Golf Tour (JGTO) title. The 18-year-old sensation had a total of 12 birdies in a bogey-free round on the par-70, 6,545-yard Nagoya Golf Club course. Ishikawa began his final round 6 strokes behind the tournament leader but birdied nine of first 11 holes to win the event at 13-under 267.

“I got off to a good start for the first time in four rounds, so I told myself not to give up for the title until the end,” said Ishikawa. “To my surprise, I found myself making this many birdies. I was in a calm mental state for all 58 strokes.”

Born on September 17, 1991, Ishikawa became the youngest winner of a men’s tournament on the JGTO by winning the 2007 Munsingwear Open KSB Cup, at the age of 15 years and 8 months. Ishikawa turned professional in 2008 and won his second tournament on the JGTO, the minavi ABC Championship. By the end of the 2008 season, Ishikawa had become the youngest player to reach the top 100 of the Official Golf Rankings. With a total of four wins on the JGTO in 2009, Ishikawa became the youngest player to reach the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings. As the top-ranked Japanese player in the World Rankings, Ishikawa finished the 2009 season atop the JGTO money list with earnings in excess of 180 million yen ($1.9 million) and at the 2009 JGTO awards, Ishikawa earned a total of 9 awards, including top money earner, JGTO MVP, best scoring average (69.93), best putting average (1.724), as well as highest number of birdies (4.42) on the JGTO.

At The Crowns, Ishikawa played a Srixon® Z-STAR™ XV golf ball and earned a total of $255,000 for his first victory of the 2010 season.

I think my favorite balls right now would be the z star x prov 1 and the pent i think the penta is the best ball out there for me it is easy for me to judge my spin and it just feels great of of my wedges because i am a big short game guy the z star x is nice also i just dont have any more to play:clapping:

OK, the above chart refers to the "Old ZSTAR" and "Old ZSTAR X" while having "ZSTAR" and "ZSTAR XV" being without the word old, meaning current, so is the XV taking the place of the X?

I only ask because I like the ZStarX more than anything. For me the launch angle, spin, and distance are all nicely combined into a ball I find myself buying more frequently than others. That and the TY version are so darn durable!

It appears from the chart the XV compared with the X is going to lose quite a bit of spin off the irons and lunch higher with the driver, not great with the wind I typically play in. I like the drop dead spin I put on the X, being able to hold greens with a 4i is something I need to do, I can not have run out like playing an e6+(my winter ball) or something.

Whats the deal with the regular X's, and I running out to buy 10 dozen?

Haiku as a sig?
They may be overrated
But I'm rocking one!

it would have to be a darn good bean to beat out my Penta, or even my 2nd fave, the B330S.

But i'm open to anything
I'm with you on the stone, great rock, and so is the cally i(s), but not that penta...no sir no way.

That chart tells me nothing! What rule of measure does the line represent? One yard? They make it seem biased....duuuuuh....while boasting quietly about the new king in long drive balls. Gimme' a break already....and a free sleeve to try! :clapping:
