2011 Michigan GolfWrx Match Play Tournament

Crazy Idea??

I have been thinking of this for awhile and think it would be awesome to put together a 16 man match play tournament in the lower peninsula for the state of Michigan with golf Wrx''ers. I think you need a verifiable GAM index. We would do a random draw for bracket and you get 80% of handicap in a match play situation. I think the course would be a midway point agreed upon between the players (that wasn't your home course). You have 3 weeks to play your match and this could begin this in June. This gives you the chance to meet other Wrx'ers and play a little competitive golf. Everyone throws in $20 bucks and pay out top two say 60/40. I would be glad to arrange the brackets and post all results. Would others be interested in this? If I get enough response then I will collect the money to reserve you spot ahead of time to prevent people from backing out.

I'd have some interest in playing....one match that is....I'd probably be done after one round (9 & 8, or some such).

At least I have a handicap now, though!

getting some good feedback on this. Hope to get it to 16 guys..it sounds like a blast. Tiger I think you need to give all of us strokes being that you hit your driver >300 yards.

I have not kept a GAM index for a few years, but I could get it updated pretty quickly with all of my cards from this season.

I have about 11 guys with some interest. I will finalize the list this spring. Once I get 16 guys total to pay $20 I will set up the brackets by random draw. Again, to keep it fair you need to have a GAM verifiable handicap and you will receive 80% of it. This will be a blast.

Playing next season..begin in May or so that way there is plenty of time to play each match.

The "where" part could be an issue. I'd guess that somewhere in the Flint/Lansing/Auburn Hills area would be most central to folks, unless there's some northern lower peninsula and upper peninsula folks in on this.

Or, the other option is to let the course float depending on the matches and the relative locations of the participants.

sorry kevin, the where will be a halfway point between the two players. This is only for the lower penisula due to travel times from the UP. The course will vary for every match. I would hope to find an agreeable post equidistant from both players. I wouldn't imagine any more than 1.5 hours driving at most for any player this way!

Whatever day works best for the two players. It could be friday, sat, or sun. I'm going to leave it up to the players to pick their course and the day. three weeks should be enough time to pick a day that works and a location.

I would be interested. If it worked out, we could split the 16 players into two divisions based on geography so the first 3 rounds would be closer proximity. Then we could possibly arrange some foursomes for the first set of matches.

Even if it doesn't work out, I think we should try to arrange at least one large outing next summer - I love this site.

We had one last year at Forest Dunes and over half the people bailed. Ended up being a lot of work for not much interest but openwater and I met a few cool guys. I will definitely put this together this spring.

I think two or four geographic divisions would be best to keep matches close at the beginning.

Good - thanks so much for asking, open!

It's been a busy year since last Spring. I actually broke my ankle about a month ago playing hockey, but will get thes cast off in about 3 more weeks. (had to have surgery and get 8 screws and a plate inserted) Hoping PT will allow me to get out on the course just as soon as the weather allows.

Hope all has been well with you guys. Yeah, I have the smokes still. Didn't feel worthy enough to play 'em last year (and still don't, but I'm gonna anyway! LOL! Life is short!) Would be great to see you again. My father-in-law was up there for an outing at FD in August I think - he had a great time too!
