Who still plays a 400CC or Less Driver

What model do you game
Just a quick survey of anyone playing 400CC or Less drivers. I think I want to trend back to a smaller head and would like some feedback on what's still being played by the people up here and a little on why you have that model. Comparisons would be great if you have any.

Also if anyone has any hanging around they are looking to trade of sell at a good price leave me a message here or PM me. I am in the market.

Thanks

My Louisvilles are 250cc but they probably don't count to this discussion.

My 'modern' drivers that rotate out from time to time:

Mizuno MP-600. 460cc but plays and looks much smaller.
TM R510TP. 390cc
TM R7TP. 400cc

Most all the newer 460cc stuff looks like a square/triangular/hexophenalifical(?)/5 gallon pail on the end of a broom handle and I can't get my eye to be comfortable with that.

I have kept the three above because they have solid black crowns, a traditional shape, and they set up in a way that is preferable to my eye. There probably are better drivers out there but these work for me along with the shaft combinations that are installed in them.

I have a set (1, 3, 5) of warbirds that I play on and off, usually when I need to work the ball more. Love the comments when I pull the driver and people think I'm hitting 3 wood.

Primary bag:

Titleist 915Fd 13.5
Titleist 913h 17

When course is narrower:
TM R510 TP - 390 CC 9.5
TM R7 TP Quad - 400 CC 10

When course is wide open.
Callaway FT3-Tour 10.5 - 460 CC

Both TMs being older drivers and smaller...I feel I have just a bit more time with the ball on my clubface to work the ball. Maybe it is not so springy....must be a mental thing because i know
the diff is minimal.

My father-in-law uses my old Biggest Big Bertha and occasionally outdrives me with my G15. Remember when the BBB came out in the late 90's? We all thought the head-size on that was a joke. What is it, something like 350-360cc?

TM R7 Quad TP is still one of my favorites. They had a used one at the PGA Tour Superstore the other day and I was hitting it just as long as my SuperFast TP...I like the extra forgivenes of my current stick though but I wouldn't be complaining too much if I ever had to go back to the R7 QUad TP

I've been bagging a Titleist 905S (400cc) for the last couple of years. Prior to that, a 410cc Nike Ignite was in the bag for the preceding couple or three years. Both clubs were shafted up with a Grafalloy Blue shaft and were consistent performers and stalwarts of my bag.

Aesthetically, I prefer the smaller, compact head of the Titleist and the traditional pear shape at address. The head is right up at the CoR limit, goes pretty much as far as anything else I've hit, and I'm able to shape it both ways with confidence. The feel is nice and solid - more of a clunk than a clank - and in my driver's case the solid feel is augmented by the tickling of hotmelt it's had to get the swingweight up to an agreeable level. The club's only 44 1/2" in length, and with an ultralight (c. 60g) shaft it took some fettling to get it up to my preferred D-4. Forgiveness-wise, if 400cc ever proves to be too demanding then I reckon it's a sign that it's time to pack the game in.

A well-fitted head aside, the Blue shaft is simply a great bit of kit for me; almost a perfect fit. I'm a naturally high spin player, so the tip-stiff design of the Grafalloy Blue plays a part in knocking some spin off the ball and flattening out the trajectory of my drives but, crucially, without knackering the flight and my carry distances by bringing the launch down to a too-low level as I've found with some other shaft models.

The 905S and Ignite 410 are my favourites, but there are plenty of c. (or sub) 400cc heads out there that are still tip top clubs. The Taylor Made R510TP immediately springs to mind, as does the R7425 and R7 Quad and the other 500 Series heads. Even the 300 Series woods. Maxed out CoR and a pleasing size and shape. Bridgestone's J33 is another smaller-headed driver that still ticks boxes, and Titleist's 905T, 983K and E and the 975 Series heads such as the J, J.VS and LFE are still worth a look-in. Cleveland's older Launcher models are also excellent drivers. Couple any of the above with a shaft that suits you and there's no reason that it should play second fiddle to any more modern club. Indeed, if you're like me you may find that an older driver actually trumps a new one.

I had one of those in HS. The looks I got from people was pretty funny, and even better when I hit the thing because it's sound was unmistakeable.

I play a Taylor Made 300 ti 9.5 300cc driver. It kicked my G10 out of the bag. It delivers a low, penetrating draw with my swing. 20 yards longer than my 10* Ping G10. go figure?

I'm not a slave to the latest and greatest. I want to go low and use what works, for me.

Cleveland Launcher 400 for me with a V2 in it is a good combo, though I have a couple 460cc heads that I am currently in the process of trying to find the right shaft for to see if I can kick the Clevleand out of the bag.

+1. I really like it, but I'm probably going to get a new bigger driver for more forgiveness.

Well, not now (sig), but I played with a Mizuno Blue Rage for a couple of years. Best feeling driver I've ever owned. Plenty forgiving, even at 350cc's. There is also a 310cc version. You could pick one up for nothing (@$20) on Ebay now. In fact, I think I'm gonna pick one up...

Titleist 905 T or S. Plus the 983 and 975 series.

Cleveland Launcher 360 or 400.

TM 510, 540, 580. Plus the old 300, 320, 360 series.

Callaway GBB II (original version is 380cc, later available as 415cc).

That's more or less the list of drivers I've used for the last 10-12 years. The late 90s still saw me bagging a steel BB Warbird, 9*, 43.5", DG X100 (250cc I believe?). Then it was on to the 975D. Then TM's for a couple of years. They went stale and I dabbled with the Clevelands and the GBB II (very underrated club IMO). I've had a Titleist 905T (400cc) in the bag for the last few years. I've tried to knock it out with newer drivers, but I haven't found anything better. Just a very very consistent, reliable, workable, good feeling, good looking club. Like Matt said, if 400cc isn't forgiving enough, time to hang up the spikes. drinks.gif

More Titleist love here. Total bag time in the past few years has been taken up by the 905T, but a recent switch to a 905S has me finding more fairways than ever. A brief outing with a 905R makes it look huge in comparison to my other drivers which also include a brace of 983K's. But for now, I'm sticking with the 400cc 905S - an absolute gem of a driver.

I'm another of the TM R510TP brigade. I have reshafted it with a Grafalloy Blue Tour and it works well for me.

Found an ooooold TM 300 series Ti Tour 8.5 degree driver with a Grafalloy Blue Tour in it. I went out with it and was hitting it almost as far(maybe 10 yards shorter) as my current driver and shaping it to my heart's content. Going back to this for awhile. Amazing since it's only 43.75 inches. And I can hit it off the deck! BANG!:yahoo:

I only have one driver and its a Callaway Steelhead III, 9 degree.

I am getting some good distance on my drives but consistency is another problem, I tend to slice the ball a fair bit lol

Im going to carry on playing this club for now but I think I may treat myself when summer comes round.

Agree lol

Its just hitting winter here so Im resisting buying anything brand new at the moment. Going to keep my eyes out for good deals though.

I hit my friends Ping G5 draw biased driver(only once lol) but I liked the feel of it, playing tomorrow so he might let me have a few more swings of it.
