For those who play longer than standard iron shafts...

...did you also increase the length of your SW or GW shaft?

I play with my 4-PW iron shafts at +1/2" longer than standard (based on the results from a club fitting). However, the shafts of my GW and SW (which are a different brand than my 4-PW) are at standard length.

Call me stupid, but for some reason, it never occurred to me until the other day that maybe I should play the SW and GW at +1/2" longer also (I guess I don't think of them as "irons," I think of them as "wedges," even though they are just higher-lofted irons).

For those of you who play iron shafts longer than standard, do you do this for all your irons or do you exclude your SW and/or GW? If you do exclude them, why?...is there some advantage to keeping the SW and/or GW shafts shorter relative to the rest of your clubs?

I play with + 1/2" on my irons and wedges. Since I rarely hit a full wedge shot, I could probably just as easily play with my wedges at standard length, but I feel like there is more continuity with them being + 1/2".

It is always best to keep your set lengths consistent all the way through your wedges. There are actually two schools of thought when you get to wedge lengths. 1. Most OEMS will step wedges down 1/4" from PW through LW. This helps keep swing weights from getting too heavy. 2. Keep all yor wedges the same length , i.e if your PW is 35.5" than your LW should be 35.5". This allows you to control distances by choking down on the grip.

So if your irons are +1/2", you should also adjust your wedges accordingly.

I have my wedges 1/2" over standard, same as the rest of my irons. Creates more uniformity throughout the set and definitely helps on a full wedge shot.

By having your wedges shorter, chances are you are being pulled out of your best athletic address position, forcing you to address the ball differently. I like to play from my strongest address for every club. The compensation is what is hard to repeat - shot after shot.

The other consideration you must have is the lie angle. If the wedges are more upright than your extended club then is should be shorter - but must be to the right degree.

If your wedges are the same length then they must also be the same lie or you will have directional control issues.

+1 inch on my irons, +3/4 " on my vokey GW, SW, and LW.

I play my irons +1" and have my wedges +1" also. I feel it creates more uniformity throughout the set .

All my clubs are 1.25" over including wedges. Couldn't imagine it any other way.

And for accuracy be sure the lie angles are the same.

all of mine are plus 3/4 and the wedges are 1/8" shorter. when i play g,s,l they are all 1/8" shorter than pw. when i play 54,58 or 54,60. then i play them 1/4" shorter than pw. and to control distance, i just choke up or down on them. easier than some type of feather half swing stuff.

I play my gap, sand and lob wedges all at the same length (and the gap, like all my irons, is 1/2" over).

Good posture in the shorter irons is hard for me. I plat my 9 iron and PW at the same length and my wedges at +1/2" in line with the rest of the set (except the PW). Sounds weird but it works for me. Every time I pick up a standard wedge it just seems incredibly short and flat.
