My goal is 350 yards

What Swing Speed and/or Ball speed do I need

Fairly straight forward question. If my equipment is good to go(launch/spin) what swing speed and ball speed will I need to have a decent shot at 350 yards?

Approximately:

Swing Speed- 130+mph
Ball Speed- 195+mph
Launch Angle- 13 degrees +-
Spin- 2400 rpm or lower


This is all assuming a smash factor of 1.5 which is near perfect.

Assuming you just want it at 350 with runout of 40 - 45 yards .. Will need firm fairways. 124mph or so will do it for you ... approx equal to Philly Mick, Dustin, JB and Bubba and Tiger. They are all in this range
We have a lefty at our home track that is a 350 guy swinging 126.
The Titleist fitters loved this guy on the Trackman
In our LD at the member guest this year he had one 373 !!! It was quite a bit uphill (off the back patio at our clubhouse) but downwind

Depends on what multiplying factor that's used. Some use 2.5 when calculating swing speed but that's wrong. 2.3 factor is closer for determining carry distance with known swing speed and actually using 2.2 is even better since it represent a true average carry distance because of mishits. 2.3 multiplier yields distances/numbers that only hold true if you hit it on the sweet spot otherwise using 2.2 gives you a more realistic number. Anyway, I know that using 2.5 as a lot of folks do here is not correct.

Swing speed MPH X 2.2 = MPCD
Example – 80 MPH X 2.2 = 176 yards MPCD
This formula assumes a 28* 5-iron. Any variation of the loft is factored at 2.5 yards per degree, so at 80 mph a 26* 5-iron would MPCD at 181 yards, while a 30* 5-iron would MPCD at 171 yards.[/b]

OK here's the deal...During my swing, I lose wrist **** and cast the club head out early. I [i]think[/i] my clubhead speed is around 115 based on distances and the few times I've been on a crappy golfsmith tracker. Any ideas what speed I'd have if I fix my wrist break and casting?

Definitely agree with this, if your SS is 115, I would have to see it to believe it if you were in fact casting. Maybe your getting a feeling of casting because you are thinking you need to hold that wrist angle longer, but that will in fact end up decreasing SS as you will need much stronger forearms and wrists to be able to hold and release that more if you are not in fact casting at the moment.

I'm definitely casting, I see it in every video I take, which is pretty much every practice session. I know the trackers at golfsmith or golfgalaxy aren't very accurate but I can take a video of that with a speed reading...pickin up a club there tomorrow or monday.

Your other thread shows a swing with a real early release. If you can make 115 that way, you are a serious athlete.

Technically there are several ways of getting the clubhead to pass your hands before it reaches the ball. I don't know what causes yours; I just know how hard it was for me to solve my own issue with that. I don't think you could get to 350 without being able to hold lag deeper into your downswing.

I'm in relatively the same boat. I get my ss up to 125mph but I know I cast earlier than I want to. Sure I am holding some lag but not the kind of lag I need to hit 140mph ss.

You could ask Sellinger who to go to regarding a long drive oriented swing.
BTW, the proper equipment is #1 priority whether you are ready or not...it's where you actually start.
Same goes for aspiring tour players...equipment must be better than you are.
