Nike Iron Combo Thoughts

So heres what I did.. I have a set of Nike Pro Combo OS. I am getting better, so I wanted something with a little more feel, the ability to hit lower shots, and the ability to attack pins with more precision. So I opted to custom order a 6 & 7 iron from the Pro Combo Tour set, with the exact same specs as my set, only in DG X100 instead of S300. Then I went really nuts. I ordered an 8, 9 & PW in the forged blades. Same specs, also X100 shafts. Now my Pro Combos are REALLY a combo.

How does everyone feel about this? Do you think it'll give me what I'm looking for?

wow...ya that should help a little at what I think you want to get at. Pro Combo OS are still great irons, and they even won on tour a few weeks ago. nevertheless...that's one crazy set, hope it works for you.

The only concern I can see is the differences in loft variation. Overall, seems like a cool set. Let us know how it works out.

At one point, I dropped a 7-iron blade in my PC set. I had the loft strengthened by 1 degree and had success with it. I eventually took it out to use for practicing ball striking on the range though.

are you stewart cink? i think you have his iron set up. he might have 2 or 3 iron slinghot in there too.

i agree with nike mike on needing to worry about the loft gap between the pro combo 7 iron - 35* and the blade 8 iron - 41*. the typical gap in both the pro combo and blade set is 4* and the blades play 2* weaker than the pro combo tour and os (both the tour and os are the same lofts).

Pretty cool setup but I don't understand why you bought the 8,9, and PW in forged blades. The Pro Combo tour set have the 8,9, and PW as a blade anyway and with normal lofts. The forged blades have weaker lofts.

I've said this several times, but I like repeating it :drinks:

If Nike made an entire set of blades like the Pro Combo 8-pw, I would scoop those in a second. They seem easier to hit and are more forgiving than the regular Nike blades.

yeah, Well I have a friend at Golf Galaxy (only reason I go in there). He hooks me up fairly well. He checked my specs and he is going to bend my irons so there is no gap between the pro combo and forged blades. Hey, he said it would be on the house, so I cant complain about that. I know the procom tour heads are blade-like...but i wanted even more workability, and the narrower sole in the lower irons.

I have the Pro Combo Tours and I like them more and mor everyday. You are right about the blade short irons. They are great. wouldnt mind having a full set like those.

But I do think the combo set you made up is over the top and kida an over kill. 2,3 in the Pro Combo and the rest in the tours would be the waw to go. X100's seem a bit much if you are just an ok player. but they are gest clubs none the less.

You will enjoy them.

well i already own the pro combo os. i cant get the ball to work enough around the green. i didnt feel like dropping 800 for another set of irons, cuz the OS are sweet for just about everything except accuracy in the lower clubs.mind you, my ball speed with driver is in the 170's, so I have the ability to hit x flex in all my clubs. but for me, an s flex works the best for me because i like to hit the ball higher with my irons. but now i've changed my whole game plan, and from 160 in, i want to have the ability to go low at the pins. so x flex is the best option. and the smaller head size and the reduced offset of the blades/ tours is going to be exactly the answer for my short clubs. the technology is out there, i just wanted to make sure i was using it appropriately. thanks for the tips about the lofts though, im definitely going to get those matched up.
