R9 Iron- impressive

Hi guys:

I was at local golf shop last weekend and i found something amazing... R9 iron =)

 

At first, i was testing the new Nike VR combo, with S300, kinda too heavy for me, my current set, i had NS Pro 950 stiff. With 8 iron, i only got 135 yards from the VR combo. Then i tested a set of R9 with KBS T90 regular shaft, wow, i was blown away, i got 151 yard out of 8 iron. i wasn't a fast swinger like majority of WRXers, my SS is about 93mph, but this is the first time i can hit 150 yards with 8 iron. I'm not sure if the iron itself or is the shaft. If anyone of you who had experience with R9, please let me know the distant that you are getting from R9.

The loft difference between the 2 paired with lighter shafts in the r9's is where the extra 15 yards are coming from. A more fair comparison would be r9 8 iron to a vr 7 iron, much closer in specs

These irons were all the rage at this time last year. I think they're a good set. The light shafts should definitely help add some distance and they are pretty forgiving. Kind of a clicky feel at impact but really they felt pretty good to me. My biggest problem with them was the swing weight felt VERY light and I like the feel of a heavier head in my irons.

I played a set of R9s with TT DGS300s this season. Really liked the way they looked and felt but I had 2 issues with them -

1.) Sometimes if I really flushed one it would come off hot and carry an extra 10 yards or so.

2.) It was hard to play certain types of shots - like knock-downs - due to the size and tech of the club.

However, they are a good club if you are looking for added forgiveness in a not-quite-game-improvement package.

I have my TP's, and regardless of whether I get a new set of irons...I will never get rid of these. The KBS shafts are great and the technology and forgiveness are top notch.

The regular R9 irons are even more forgiving, which you can't beat.

But they are high launching...not necessarily a bad thing...
