There are a few WITB photos and a few swing photos. Ty Tryon, D.A. Points and Gary Woodland played. So did Johnny Damon. Lucas Glover & Trevor Immelman were there, as was Coach Lou Holtz. Jim Stuckey (SF 49ers), Steve Beuerlein (NFL q-back for Raiders, Cowboys, Cardinals, Jags & Panthers - now a CBS NFL analyst) & Wesley Walls(former NFL wide receiver) braved to 34* temps + 20 mph winds.

I agree there is the potential to do a lot of good thru this event. Lots of big name sports personalities getting on board to support this. I'll continue to update this as I get more info.

Season-Long Campaign To Fund Armed Forces Charities, Local First Responders, 9-11 Memorials and Friends of Freedom Charities with $100 for Every Birdie
Covington, GA. — Bridgestone Golf and the newest member of its TOUR team Davis Love III, announced today that they’ll be teaming up for a season-long effort to benefit Golf 9/12. Bridgestone Golf will contribute $100 to Golf 9/12 for every birdie that Love cards from the start of the 2011 PGA Tour season through September 11th—a sum, based on Love’s storied career, that should climb above $30,000.
Golf 9/12 is a brand new initiative that was created in an effort to recapture the collective spirit of unity that swept through the country the day after 9/11/01 (see www.golf912.org). Golf 9/12 encourages people to take part in a global day of golf, connected by a live mobile scoring and social networking application, in which $12 will be added to players’ greens fees to help fund educational programs at the Pentagon Memorial, the 9/11 Memorial and the Flight 93 Memorial. Proceeds will also benefit Armed Forces charities, local first responders and Friends of Freedom charities.
According to Dan Murphy, Bridgestone Golf’s Vice President of Marketing, “Bridgestone is thrilled to team with Davis and Golf 9/12. We hope that fans across the globe will cheer on Davis as he tallies birdies that will help Golf 9/12 in their mission of restoring the sense of unity that we all felt in the aftermath of September 11th, 2001.”
“Every birdie putt that I stand over in 2011 now takes on additional meaning,” Love emphasized. “I’m happy to play a small part in the mission of the Golf 9/12 organization. Knowing that every birdie I make will help benefit our brave men and women, at home and abroad and will help foster a universal spirit of unity, is added motivation for me! Trevor, DL,III, Gary Woodland, DA Points, Lucas Glover are a few of the PGA Tour players involved. A ton of athletes from baseball (Johnny Damon for one), football, Olympic champions also supporting this tournament.

I'm very interested but I don't see any courses in NJ participating.

My home club Glenwood CC in New Jersey lost several members on Sept. 11, including one young firefighter with multiple children left behind. I actually worked at the club through college and even the first couple years I'd entered the professional world, and my one day of work happened to be that fateful day. As if I didn't already have a deep connection to this place, that day cemented it. A few weeks later, I got a phone call I'll never forget. The wife of that firefighter called, she was working her way down the list of places she had to inform and was almost reading off a script. When she mentioned her name, I interjected my condolences before she could even tell me what happened and she lost it, understandably.

It's a phone call I can still replay in my mind today, 10 years later. He was a member with his brothers and I actually think I saw them at the club this week. I wanted to say something, but couldn't find the words. Hopefully they have rejoined (first time I saw them since prior to 9/11 and if I run into them again I'll try to think of something. It's just so crazy that it's been 10 years. What do you say? Condolences? Ask how they are? It seems there's nothing appropriate to say given all the time. Maybe just acknowledge their loss and say that it's nice to see them back at the club and let them know I watch the 9/11 tribute every year and specifically watch to hear their brother's name spoken.

Anyway, sorry to steer your thread away from the golf itself, but golf and 9/11 will forever be interwoven in my mind. I'd love to participate in this event. Probably can't get off work, but I'll donate anyway.
