Golf Trip vs. Christmas Goodies

Do you bring new/backup clubs on trips?

I've got a week-long golf trip approaching (my first, as will become explicitly clear) and would like to poll the community here on the proper practice re: clubs. I, like most of you, have a serious number of clubs, and, like many more of you, received even more for Christmas. The question, then, is what to bring with me.

Do I dare bring the new driver, having hit it only once at a semi-indoor range, and if I don't will I be cursing each lackluster drive as illustrative of my own stupidity in not having brought said new (read: better) driver?

Do I bring my 8802, Newport and belly putter? An extra set of wedges, maybe? Three woods? I can't even start with the three woods. These normally sit in my trunk/apartment and I fear I may have a compulsion to use one or the other, yet they'll be a flight away!

Anecdotes of prior experiences are equally encouraged and welcomed.

Bring the new clubs!!! If they don't produce hit the nearest golf shop for a quick trade...

Dude, bring one set of clubs and enjoy the heck out of them for that week...would really stink if the airline lost ALL your clubs.

I agree. Bring just one set, and see how it works out. If you bring just the new clubs, it gives you a full week to test them out and work them in/ decide they're not for you.

Nothing like standing on the first tee watching the ball scream down the middle of the fairway with the brand new driver.
There is also nothing like having to yell "FORE" because you shanked the same new driver towards the kid in the cart barn that is close to the first tee.

I say bring one set and have a great trip.

I've been on golf trips where showing up with clean clubs and grips was considered obsessive.

First off .... BRING ME WITH YOU!! I'm already sick of winter here in CT.

I would bring one set of old reliables. A good freind (and fellow Wrx member) travels for work quite a bit and brings his clubs with him. He has come back from the airport on more than one occasion with new dings, nicks, and scratches on his clubs from the "delicate" baggage handlers.

One week of golf is not worth permanent damage to a brand new set of clubs. Bring an older set and ENJOY THE WEEK.

I say bring the new sticks. After all, why did ya buy them?

Twiggy, your buddy who had clubs damaged more than once in transit is doing something wrong. I've traveled oodles of times with my sticks and have never had any damage (knock on wood). Properly packed, it shouldn't be an issue.

For winter trips, I usually bring whatever I was playing in the fall, except I usually don't bring my better putters. I have not found the greens to be great anywhere in the winter and the old Ping Anser works just fine. I save the debut of the new clubs until I can play more regularly.

I thank all respondents for reminding me that I should just bring a set and worry about my game. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't bring a couple putters.

New driver (909D3 with a Fujikura 7z08 for $125.50!) is coming with me. And only one 3 wood is. Done.

I would say bring the new driver and bring the old set of everything, it takes time to build confidence with those clubs
