Davis Love III

Davis is a great guy and how well can you truly know someone by solely watching them play on TV and an interview here or there...Also, he may have underachieved so to speak given his God given talent with golf, but perhaps he focuses on having a more balanced life and actually is living a life outside the game of golf...

Webber, being a former tour rep, probably got a closer look, other than,"watching them play on TV and an interview here or there".

I am a big DLIII fan. I wish he wouldve stayed with Titleist but hopefully the equipment change will spark his game. Doesn't make much sense to me to change companies when his playing schedule will be limited for the next 2 years anyhow

Now thats a team of underachievers...Couples has torn up the champions tour but...Chucky 3 sticks is about the biggest waste of talent ive ever seen on tour. The kid was raw when he came on tour and has been the biggest disappointment other than probably Ty Tryon.

I care, I like Davis. I like the way he plays the game. Long High drives!!! I like what he has done for the game. I like the fact he has won 20 pga events and a major in the Tiger area....who else has done that other than Tiger asnd Phil. I like his swing, the fact he is a family man, and the way he presents himself on camera. I like that he was on the players advisery board for a long time. I like that he has only had 2 names on his bag to date Tommy Armour and Titleist and what he did for both. I like that he will be a Ryder Cup captin. and into the hall of fame. I like that he won the 20 events in the tiger area. I like that he was one of the last to have a wood driver in his bag. He is loyal, well more loyal then most to his equipment. And I LOVE the rainbow. Go Davis Go
[/quote]

I know for sure that he was once a staffer with Hogan, and I am pretty sure he was with PING when he first came out on tour, but that one I am not 100% on.

Interesting. Well I don't dislike this move. I think Mizuno is a great place to be. They only have a few players and can really compensate them properly and give them TLC. And we all know Mizzie irons are top notch.

I still want to hear more on CHIII though. His face and bio are still over at Bridgestone.com. I googled Charles Howell and Mizuno to no avail. Nothing.

DLIII does have tons of talent, BUT he never made any clutch putts in big tournaments. That is what really separates a borderline hall of famer from someone like Watson, Nicklaus, Faldo or Tiger. To me Adam Scott is much the same way, he will probably win some more tournaments and maybe a major before he is done, but tons of natural talent will only get you so far, the sports world is full of examples much like this, in all sports.

As for comparison's in career wins with Seve and Faldo, bad example, they spent most of their careers playing in Europe, Seve is the all time Euro tour winner with over 50 wins, a great Ryder Cup record, and 5 majors, Faldo is right there with him, in terms of reaching potential Seve and Faldo are miles ahead of DLIII,

As an American I really wish DLIII and all his comtemporaries had the balls Seve and Faldo had......we would have won more Ryder Cups, majors etc. To me Seve is the guy on the other team you hate, but have a world of respect for at the same time, no one feared DLIII.

As for the comments about him personally I think he has always handled himself pretty well, I have never met him personally so I will leave it as his public image seems very solid. Whose personal life would you rather have, DLII's or Tiger's? To me negative rumors are just jealous people who are picking on someone who they know won't bite back.

DL3 was a PING guy for a while, after his Ben Hogan affiliation.

I remember that he a 3 sets of EYE2 BC irons - while using one, another one was on its way to PING for loft/lie check, and the other one being returned from PING after being checked. He had some weird fear that his swing speed was high enough to effect the loft/lie of his EYE2 irons every few weeks.

Personality-wise, give me Rich Beem who, like Fuzzy Zoeller, was good for the PGA Tour. Game-wise, give me DL3.

Most company sites will update in the next week. Howell was between Cleveland and Mizuno. And with Overton signing with Cleveland. Mizuno plucked up Chucky 3 sticks. Actually it could be a very good move for him.

Actual experience of my dad.

My dad played in the Pro-Am of World Cup in the early 90s in Mission Hills-China. The time when Phillip Morris was the sponsor. My dad won the country qualifying.

He had 2 encounters with DLIII and 3 with Couples throughout the tournament. Let us just say my dad is a very patient and understanding individual. He followed them around on the course as well. He thinks DL III probably didn't know my dad could speak and/or understand English because the comments DL III would make would seem to have indicated that he assumed people wouldn't understand what he was saying to the guy/guys beside him. It was one of the few times my dad has called someone a racist (to me, not to DL IIIs face). BoomBoom was a very gracious guy by his accounts.

It could have been a bad week for DLIII off the course, IIRC he won the individual title. Maybe he has changed since then but for that week DL III was a ^%$^&&#

BTW my dad played the ProAm with a then very unknown (and chubby) Retief Goosen.

Thanks Paulie, I'm with you. Someone gave me his book and I actually read it. Great stuff. Not marketing glitz to sell his own name stuff, but came off real. A great guy and a family man. What could be better. I'm a fan. I'll continue to root for him no matter what.

Really ? This is complete BS. I was at dinner sitting at a table right behind Davis and his brother Mark in Orlando. It was a very small place and we were all there for almost two hours. The service was extremely poor and I did not hear one simple negative comment from Davis. Don't know DLIII, never met him, couldn't really give a stuff if he is a gent or a tosser, but I don't see why an encounter in an Orlando restaurant gives any insight into behaviour in an entirely different setting.

You are effectively calling the other poster a liar. How do we know you are telling the truth?

I think I have been to that restaurant with the terrible service. Was it on W Sand Lake Rd?

Wow. Someone shares their personal experience through their father and you call this BS.
You compare your experience at a restaurant with someone of their father who obviously they respect.

Now I can completely understand that anyone can be having a bad day, bad week, even a bad month. 1 story does not make an entire person's makeup, but to call it BULLSH!7? That is what BS is. I think the 2 of you owe that poster an apology.

You have all the right in the world to share your personal experience and say, I had a good interaction with him.
To call another poster out as BS? Yikes.... not cool man. Not cool at all.
