Hi,

 

I am currently learning this, who uses it and who uses alternatives?

 

I feel very at ease and comfort to know that if (a big if) I hit the very small white ball with a relevant lofted club and at a swing position it will land relatively close to my average.

 

Wondered if anyone has felt it limits them in anyway etc?

i use an alternate to this system. i only use the 7:30 swing with my 59 degree and i know how far it goes when i take it back slightly further or shorter than 7:30. then i use the 9:00 and 10:30 with my 59, 53 and 47 degree. of course i have full swing yardages with all these clubs too. the system seems to work pretty well.

I use a similar system. But I also play around with the follow through.
For example if I take it back to 9 o'clock and follow through to 9 o'clock it will give me x yards....but if i take it back 9 and follow through all the way, I get a slightly higher flight and 5 more yards. Its a great way to play I think.

I use 7.30, 9, and 10.30 for the backswings. I use all the same folllow-throughs and never a shorter follow through than backswing. I can do equal swings, but follow-through never shorter than backswing.

I tried to learn the Pelz system, but 'my arms can't tell time'. I'd take a 9:00 swing and it would really be 10:30. Then I'd take a 10:30 swing and it would be 10:32.

So I have the following swings.

1) Fullest swing that seems natural with no wrist break (basically a maximum length chip shot)
2) A 'minimal' pitch shot swing
3) 'Half a pitch shot swing (#2 and #3 are surprisingly similar in BS length for me)
4) A 3/4 pitch shot swing (which is only slightly longer than #3

Everything else is a small tweak to one of those swings. I rarely use #3 or #4 with anything other than my LW and SW

Yeah, I do it. I think it is better to learn the 9 o'clock position first. I add a little hinge and hold to the formula and it has been really great. I am sure my positions aren't exact, but I can repeat them and alter them a little if needed.

I can't do the clock thing at all, it has to be all by feel, because [b]any [/b]conscious thought during my backswing is a complete disaster, I will either lay sod or skin it into oblivion.

I must let my sub-conscious determine backswing length and make the adjustment for distance control, Dave's method of holding the finish until the shot plays out as a feedback loop works brilliantly, it is all that is necessary for me to let the shot happen without overthinking myself into disaster.

Funny how one of his most celebrated students, seems adamantly against the clock method in his recent Secrets of the Short game DVD, although he does also seem to be "crediting" golf magazines for the concept.

Combining Dave's book and Phil's DVD worked very well for me, they complement each other rather nicely, one providing the words and concepts, and the other the visual and audio reference for the shots. Good stuff from both.

I agree with all of this. I had the same problems when I went to Pelz.

Honest feedback, I'm finding on the 730 swing in 3 x 4 you need to accelerate this to avoid deacceleration.

I'll give it a go for a while, i'm currently off of 25 so hardly got much to lose. I am finding that during practicing with it it is bringing a much more consistent takeaway for me which is a good thing, I guess this is due to it almost when being practiced being like a breakdown of the full swing.

Additionally the final swing position is really useful as said to give you feedback.
