Scotty Cameron Custom Shop Questions

1st time SC purchase & going strait to Custom Shop. Nuts? Yup

I am seriously considering sending in a Newport 2 to Scotty's Custom Shop. I did have a couple of questions, answers to which I couldn't find on SC's website or here. If someone would be gracious enough to reply, I would appreciate it.

1. The Stamps section in the custom shop says that Tour stamps (i.e, Scotty Dog, Happy Face, Peace Sign, Skull & Crossbones, etc.) are not available in the Custom Shop. In the Putter of the Day gallery, there are a few putters with Jackpot Johnny stamps that do not appear to be for Circle T or Tour use putters. Can someone confirm whether the Jackpot Johnny is a Tour stamp or if anyone off the street can request one?

2. I will be arranging for the putter to be sent directly from an online / over the phone retailer to SC's custom shop. I am getting a new Custom Shop head cover, but I would also like keep the original head cover. Will SC's custom shop ship both the original head cover and the custom shop head cover if I ask them? It doesn't sound onerous, but you never know.

3. Does anyone have experience arranging shipping from Scotty's Custom shop to Canada? Are the Custom Shop services subject to duties & GST or would it be just the value of the original putter that would be subject to duties & GST?

The Jackpot Johnny was discontinued as of the end of December, so it is no longer is available. Those pictures are of putters that were submitted before the cut off date. I'm sure if a tour player wanted it, Scotty would stamp it for him, but it was not a tour-only stamp.

As far as the headcover goes, I would not ship it with one. I would wrap it in bubble wrap. They could keep the old cover, so no sense in risking it. And I have heard of people getting charged at customs, but I am not too familiar with it.. Maybe someone with experience can chime in.

If you do send in the headcover make sure you call them and email them to let them know. They are really good with customer service but they do have a lot of work and misplace headcovers once in a while. I sent in my first putter with a headcover and they didn't send it back but I called and told them, the next day they sent me a new headcover without question. All i know about Canada is the shipping is outrageous.

I was going to send mine in and they told me if i wanted a new grip that the old one was going to be destroyed. One of the best custom shops around and they cant pull a grip?? I guess if mine goes there it will be without a grip and headcover.
BTW not to jack the thread but people on ebay are nuts. I see SC custom shop grips selling for $119. Are you HIGH?

I have sent a couple to the shop from Canada. The shipping is high but I don't recall paying any duty, just GST when they came back.

They wont send back your grip but the best way to send in a putter is head only. The reason they go for so much is that they are only put on customized putters so they are fairly exclusive.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The putter will be shipped directly to Scotty Cameron from an the authorized retailer in the States, so I will not have the ability to grab the head cover. I'll leave notes on the order form specifically asking for them to ensure that they original head cover makes it back. Hopefully, it won't get misplaced.

I know i was said above but to stress the point, Call the Studio to follow up on your notes. They are great folks to work with and a simple call goes a long way. JJ Stamp "Expired" a few months ago and was replaced by the Junk Yard Dog, which is as close to a tour stamp as you can get from the Custom Shop.

+1 here. I've have sent 3 or 4 putters to the spa from Canada. I do remember paying GST on all 4 items sent back.

But, pull the shaft and send in the head only. Shipping costs in Canada is crazy.

Dunno about Canada, but Custom Shop shipments back to the UK are not charged duty or tax on UK entry because they are marked "Repair and Return" or something similar, and are simply returning to their country of origin. Purchases from the Studio Store are certainly charged duty and tax.

Thanks everyone for the information. I did email the Custom Shop asking them my questions (except the JJ stamp question) and they got back to me the next day. They will send the original headcover with the custom order. They couldn't say for sure, but suspected GST/customs applied on the entire order.

I wasn't clear in the original post, but the putter was going directly from the authorized retailer located in the United States to the Custom Shop in California and then on to me in Canada. I was never going to have the putter in hand which would have prevented me from keeping the original headcover and/or taking the shaft apart & sending in the putterhead on its own.

All's well that ends well and my order is placed. And now, the countdown begins until Santa Cameron delivers my late Christmas present.....

late, but the retailer might send you the cover if you ask. they might make you pay the shipping but would pretty much guarantee that it doesn't get lost
